National Law University Delhi is one of the famous universities in the country for education in the field of law. This is a state university established in the year 2008. The university is producing excellent professionals, researchers, academicians and lawyers. The curriculum is designed in such a way that it will be an industry-linked global curriculum. In addition to imparting quality education and knowledge to the students the university will shape the students as next-generation leaders having ethics and values in their lives.
The university is offering B.A.LL.B.(Hons.), LL.M. and Ph.D. Programmes. The university has announced admission notification for the above three courses very recently. The university is adopting a reservation policy as per the guidelines given by UGC from time to time.
AILET
The admission test called the All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) will be conducted on 10th December 2023. The test will be conducted offline. AILET will be conducted offline in the following cities in India.
Candidates should fill out their preferred centre. They should give three cities as 1st/2nd/3rd preference. If the number of candidates is less than a hundred at a particular test centre, that city will be removed from the test centres and candidates will be allowed either in 2nd or 3rd preferred test centres.
The application fee is Rs. 3500/- for general candidates and Rs.1500/- for f SC/ST candidates and Persons with Disabilities (PwD). There will be no application fee for below-poverty-line (BPL) candidates belonging to SC/ST castes.
The last date for submission of the Application is November 13, 2023. The applications should be submitted online. Admit cards will be issued online on 20th November 2023. The admission test will be on December 10, 2023. The test will be of 2 hours duration. The test will start at 11.00 AM and will be closed by 1.00 PM
Admission Details
The details about the admission process the eligibility criteria etc are as follows.
B.A.LL.B.(Hons.) is a 5 years integrated course. Students who completed their 12th class or equivalent with 45% marks (40% in case of SC/ST/Persons with Disabilities) are eligible to apply. Candidates who will be appearing for the 12th standard annual examination in 2024 can also apply.
The intake of students in this course for this year is 110+10 (110 seats on AILET merit 5 seats each for Foreign Nationals and OCI/PIO for direct admission on merit). Foreign Nationals/OCI/PIO are not required to appear AILET. But the minimum percentage required 65% marks in the qualifying examination. One seat for Kashmiri Migrants and two seats for residents of Jammu & Kashmir are extra and including these three seats also the total intake will be 123.
The selection will be based on the score obtained in AILET.
LLM course duration is one year. Students who completed their LL.B. or an equivalent law degree with 50% marks (45% in case of SC/ST/ Persons with Disabilities) are eligible to apply. Students who are presently studying the final year of LLB and appear for their examinations in 2024 can also apply for this course.
The total number of seats is 70+10. 70 seats will be allotted on the basis of AILET merit. 5 seats each for Foreign Nationals and OCI/PIO. Foreign Nationals/OCI/PIO need not write AILET. Additional In addition to the above 80 sears One seat for Kashmiri Migrants will be given extra. That means the total number of seats will be 81.
The selection will be made based on AILET LLM.
PhD course duration will be a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 5 years. There are two streams in this. PhD in Law is one and the second one is PhD in Social Sciences.
PhD in Law. Students who completed their LL.M. or an equivalent law degree with 55% marks (50% SC/ST/OBCs non-creamy layer/ Differently Abled/Economically Weaker Section) are eligible to apply for this course.
Total Seats: 25+2. 5 seats will be given to the candidates who obtained JRF from UGC. 16 seats will be allotted based on the AILET PhD examination ranks and 4 seats with fellowship based on the AILET examination. 2 seats are for Foreign Nationals.
PhD in Social Sciences. Students from Political Science, Sociology, Criminology, Economics and English streams can apply for this. Candidates having Bachelor's degrees and Master's degrees in relevant Social Sciences or Humanities with 55% marks (50% SC/ST/OBCs non-creamy layer/ Differently Abled/Economically Weaker Section) can apply for this.
Total Seats: 4 One seat will be allotted based on UGC JRF, one seat will be based on AILET, one seat for Foreign Nationals and one seat will be based on ALITE Fellowships. UGC-JRF candidates and Foreign Nationals are exempted from AILET.
National Law University (NLU), Delhi was established in the year 2008 and is one of the NLUs out of the 23 NLUs in the country. It is a state-level institution and is considered one of the leading law institutes in India.
It offers B.A.LL.B.(Hons), LL.M, PhD programs in Law and select humanities subjects to the eligible candidates.
Eligibility
B.A.LL.B.(Hons) - Candidates who want to take admission to this course should have passed the Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2) system or an equivalent examination with a minimum of 45% marks (40% in case of SC/ST/Persons with Disability) and will have to apply online and will also have to appear in All India Law Entrance Test (AILET).
Selection will be solely based on the results of AILET.
The Foreign National and OCI/PIO candidates are also required to apply online on but they need not appear in AILET but should have at least 65% marks in the equivalent examination as Higher Secondary School Examination (10+2). Their selection would be based on the merit list based on their marks in that qualifying exam.
Candidates appearing/awaiting results of their qualifying exams can also apply and appear in the Entrance Test (AILET) but their eligibility would be accepted only when they submit the eligible results by the announced cut-off date in that regard. Candidates are advised to keep track of these announcements on the university website.
LL.M - LL.M. is a one-year Programme and candidates should have passed the LL.B or an equivalent degree from a recognised University with not less than 50% marks in aggregate (45% in case of SC/ST/Persons with Disability category). They will have to appear in AILED and selection would be as per their performance in it.
PhD - The university offers PhD programs in various areas like Law, Political Science, Sociology, Criminology, Economics, and English.
For applying for PhD in Law program, a candidate should have a Master's degree in Law or a degree equivalent to the Master's degree in Law with at least 55% marks in aggregate (or an equivalent grade on a point scale). Candidates having secured equivalent degrees from foreign institutions are also eligible to apply.
Candidates having a UG Law degree and who passed the Company Secretary examination conducted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India shall also be eligible for admission to the PhD in Law program if their research topic interfaces with the discipline of law.
Honorable Judges of any High Court in India having three years of experience or Judges of the Supreme Court of India are also eligible to apply for PhD in Law program of this institution.
Candidates desirous of applying for Ph.D. Degree in Political Science, Sociology, Criminology, Economics, or English should have a Bachelor's Degree and Master's Degree in the relevant subject from any recognized educational institution (Indian or foreign) with at least 55% marks in aggregate (or an equivalent grade in a point scale). A relaxation of 5% in marks would be allowed for candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/ Differently-able categories.
All the candidates applying for PhD program will have to appear in AILED test for admission.
All India Law Entrance Test - 2024, scheme
The candidates should apply online for the entrance test in the university website and provide all the details asked and upload the required documents and deposit the entrance fee which is Rs 3500 (Rs 1500 for reserved categories) for all the courses.
The test paper for B.A.LL.B (Hons.) will be for 120 minutes and will have three sections - English Language (50 questions, 50 marks), Current Affairs & General Knowledge (30 questions, 30 marks), and Logical Reasoning (70 questions, 70 marks). Negative marking will be there deducting one mark for four wrong answers.
The test paper for LL.M. will consist of 100 multiple choice questions (total of 100 marks) from the different branches of Law. The duration of the examination will be 120 minutes. Negative marking will be there deducting one mark for four wrong answers.
The test paper for PhD will comprise of a total of 100 multiple choice questions (duration 120 minutes) out of which 50 questions will be on Research Methodology. The remaining 50 questions will be from different branches of Law for 'Ph.D. in Law' candidates while the remaining 50 questions will be from different branches of Social Sciences for the candidates seeking admission in 'PhD in select social science subject'. Negative marking will be there deducting one mark for four wrong answers.
Important Dates
The university has already started allowing submission of the online application form w.e.f. August 07, 2023. The last date for submission is November 13, 2023.
All India Law Entrance Test (AILET) for admission to the B.A.LL.B. (Hons), LL.M., and Ph.D. Programs starting the 2024 session will be physically conducted on Sunday, December 10, 2023, from 11.00 AM to 1:00 PM.

Selection procedure
NLU Delhi admissions are offered to B.A. L.L.B Hons, L.L.M and Ph.D. Law. Admission will be done based on candidates' scores in AILET. For NLU Delhi admission to Ph.D. Law program, candidates are selected based on a written test/AILET followed by the evaluation of research proposals and interview/viva-voce. Final admission is confirmed after verification of documents and NLU Delhi admission fee payment.
