If any person wants to become an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer, the following are the steps to be completed.

1. The candidate should complete 10 +2 or its equivalent. In the qualifying examination, the candidate should have studied Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics and should have obtained a minimum of 45% marks. Alternatively, a candidate who completed Diploma approved by AICTE in any stream.

2. The minimum age limit is 16 years and the maximum age limit is 28 years by the time of admission.

3. The candidate should not have any physical disorder or colour blindness.

4. Medical examination of the institute is also to be cleared.

Once the above criteria are met a student can apply for enrolment in any DGCA ( Director General Civil Aviation) of India-approved institutes only.

There are two types of programmes in this.

1. A Program: The duration of this course is two years. One year in the classroom on campus. Another year will be training in maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) organisations and airlines. A fixed monthly stipend will be given for these two years.

2. B program: The duration is four years. The first two years will be on campus. The remaining two years will be for practical training. A monthly stipend during the two-year training period will be offered to the eligible students.

Admission to these courses offered by different institutions will be based on written tests that are being conducted by the institution. This is not a common examination and different institutes will have different entrance examinations.
Then the candidate will be admitted to the institute. After completing the course the candidate has to apply for a licence.

Once the licence is obtained the candidate can take up the job based on the licence obtained
