As a schoolteacher how can I become a school Vice-Principal in India?

Though the starting phase might appear to be difficult for an aspirant in undertaking a higher responsibility from a school teacher to the post of the Vice - Principal of a school, he should not be disappointed. Rather, he should apply his rational strategies to be successful in his venture. He would be required to make a systematic strategy to achieve his well-conceived plan as indicated below -
1) He should remain under the good book of the Principal of the school by virtue of his teaching and administrative skills. He must be recognized as a capable figure in the areas of multiple activities such as managing gardening and horticulture, raising school funds with the curtailment of wasteful expenses, encouraging students to adhere to discipline for their overall growth, motivating the pupils to take part in cultural activities such as drama, games and quiz competitions etc for their all-round development of their personality traits.
2) The Secretary and even the Principal of the school might have noticed his organizational skills during the absence of the Principal when the aspirant was the acting vice-principal.
3) The candidate must have put his service for at least ten years as an efficient teacher.
4) The post of the Vice - Principal is purely an administrative post and hence his success for the said post would depend on how best he can pragmatically tackle the different issues so that the administration of the school runs smoothly. He has to apply a tactful approach in dealing with his colleagues working as teachers and motivating them to show their best skills in teaching but at the same time, he should not mix with them freely considering the administrative issues of the school.
5) Being a vice-principal, he has to remain under the good book of the Principal of the school. He has to assist the Principal in multiple areas such as maintaining the highest standard of discipline, financial health and above all, the maintenance of peace in the school region.
5) He has to acquire specific certifications such as computer programming, and a diploma in accounting via a distance course apart from improving his oratory skills in English, Hindi and the local languages being spoken in that region.
6) The basic qualification to be the Vice - Principal of a higher secondary school is a post-graduation degree in any stream with a minimum of 50% mark followed by the M.Ed qualification. To be eligible for the post of vice-principal of a middle school, the candidate must have a graduation degree followed by a B.Ed degree.
7) Getting a job as a Vice - Principal can be an easy way for an aspirant provided he has an excellent rapport with the Principal and secretary of the school. Hence getting a job as a Vice - Principal in the same school is easier than getting the same as in another school.

A Vice Principal is the 2nd in command in the school. In the absence of the Principal, he/ she will be the person in charge of the school. In addition to teaching responsibilities, a Vice Principal will have some additional responsibilities in school management and he/ she will be assisting the principal in administrative activities. When I was in high school, we used to call 2nd Head Master. He is the No.2 senior in the school.
The senior teacher among the teachers in the schools will be called Vice Principal. To become a Vice Principal one should have experience in teaching and school administration also.
As you said you are a teacher, I take it that you have the required qualifications to teach. Now you have to put is some years of service. If you are working in a private school apply for some other school for the post of Vice-Princial and you may get it. Try to get some certificates in management, administration, etc so that you will get preference in getting the selection.
