Admission to B. Tech starts in June every year. To take admission in B. tech you must complete your higher secondary exam from any recognized board in India.

If you are looking for admission to any IIT or NIT then you must clear JEE. After that you would be able to take admission to IIT or NIT as per your percentile in JEE advanced.

If you have appeared in JEE, you have a good chance to get admission to a good college for B. Tech.

If you have not appeared in JEE, your admission process would be done based on the percentage of your higher secondary examination. You need the following documents for getting admission to B. Tech.:

  1. Mark sheet of high school examination passed

  2. Mark sheet of JEE (If appeared)

  3. Adhaar Card

  4. Cast certificate (if applicable)

  5. Income certificate (if applicable)

  6. Transfer certificate

  7. Migration

  8. Character certificate school principal

B.Tech course is offered by many colleges and universities in India. Every university is having its admission process. Unlike NEET for MBBS, for admission to B.Tech, candidates have to appear for different entrance tests.

A candidate should pass 10 + 2 or any other equivalent examination with a minimum percentage of marks as prescribed by the institute. The reservation policy will apply to all the institutes including private colleges and private universities.

All IITs and NITs will allot seats based on the rank obtained in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). All the state universities and colleges will allot seats based on the rank obtained in the entrance test conducted by the State. Private Universities may conduct their own entrance test and rank-based seat allotment will be carried out. Common counselling will be organised by the State and allot seats and there is no necessity of applying for individual colleges. The candidate will have the chance to select the branch and college based on the availability of seats in the institute when his/ her turn comes. What are certificates required for admission will be informed to the candidates and when the candidate attends the counselling, he /she should carry all such certificates.

The aspirants need to adopt certain precautions before taking up their admissions in any engineering college and the following are my suggestions-

1) Instead of hurriedly taking up admission in an engineering college, the aspirants must verify the reputation of the colleges in terms of their teaching, background of faculties, internship openings, campus placement chances of the aspirants etc.

2) The safe side in this respect would be to concentrate on the preparation of JEE Main followed by JEE Advanced so that they are inducted in one of best IIT Institutions such as IIT Delhi, IIT Mumbai, IIT Kanpur, IIT Kharagpur etc.

3) If the results are not proportional to the efforts of aspirants in securing seats in the above mentioned premier institutions, they should approach the colleges which would suit their rankings after considering the points mentioned at 1 above.

4) The other prominent institutions are BITS Pilani, BIT Meshra, Thapar Institution of Technology, RIT Jamshedpur, BIT Sindri etc.
