Author: DR.N.V. Srinivasa Rao Post Date: 30 Jul 2023 Master of Business Administration (MBA) has become a very important qualification for job seekers. Irrespective of their UG qualifications, if they obtained an MBA qualification, their chances of getting a good job are increasing, I feel. Many Engineering graduates also opt for an MBA degree that will give them scope for Management cadre posts early in their careers.
The advantage that comes from an MBA degree depends more on the college from which the certificate is obtained. An MBA degree from IIMs or famous business schools will make the candidate a highly sought-after candidate. At the same time, an MBA from a normal arts or commerce college will not have much impact on the chances of getting a job.
There are many specializations in MBA. The career prospectus depends more on the specialisation the candidate opted for in his MBA.
Some popular specialisations generally offered by various institutions offering MBAs are- 1. Sales and Marketing 2. Finance 3. Human Resources (HR) 4. IT and Systems 5. International Business 6. Operations
There may be many more specialisations.
If a candidate who is working in an organisation completes his MBA, chances will be there to get promoted to senior positions. Otherwise, the chances of getting a better increment will also be there. The candidate can shift his job to a bigger company for a senior position by showing his / her qualifications for better pay and perks.
A candidate who completed his MBA with specialisation after completing a BE/B Tech course will be considered for an Assistant Manager or Deputy Manager based on the size of the industry, in Project Management, and Product Management. Operations Management etc and based on the performance of the individual may be promoted to Manager posts within a year or two.
A candidate who did MBA in HR management will be considered for posts in training management, Personnel management, Recruitment management, etc.
A candidate with MBA in finance will be considered for the senior position in the accounts department, finance department, and also in audit departments.
Definitely, MBA from a standard institute will add value to your resume and gives a different look to the employer. Salaries will also be on the higher side. But simply having an MBA is not going to help these days. One should showcase his/ her talent in the interview and his selection depends more on how the interview was faced.
