After completing one's HSC (10+2 or Intermediate) exam there are many opportunities for doing certificate or diploma courses to acquire practical knowledge in a specific area so that one can apply for a related position in the industry where there is a demand for people having that certificate or diploma qualifications. Generally, certificate courses are of small duration like 3 to 6 months while diploma courses are for a longer duration like 6 months to 2 years.

Some of these areas where job prospects are better are as follows -
  • Tourism - The growth in the tourism sector is very good and poised for more. There are job opportunities as tour operators, tour managers, ticketing and tour managers, management of package tours, group tour management, educational excursions, etc.
    There are many certificate/diploma courses available in this segment like travel management, hospitality, ticketing, and cruise travel.
  • Animation and Multimedia - This is a prospective area and is a good choice for starting self-employment. Job opportunities are also there. Animation and Multimedia have become a part of the business industry today and are used everywhere from the advertising industry to education. Going for a certificate/diploma in this area will equip a person to work in the animation industry and produce and operate multimedia products.

    Some of the courses in this area are 2D and 3D Animation, 3D Max & AutoCAD, VFX Pro, Graphic Design, etc.
  • Hotel Management - With a boom in the tourism industry the hotel business is also looking up in our country. There is good scope for jobs after a certificate/diploma in hotel management.

    Many courses are available and the student can choose as per one's interest. Some of these courses are Hotel Management, Hotel Management and Catering Technology, Hospitality and Hotel Administration, etc.

  • Digital Marketing - This is another good area where there is good activity and scope of job. Today marketing is being done through digital channels and knowledge of digital marketing is essential for this. A diploma in digital marketing is very helpful in the present environment. After attending this course the student can acquire a good knowledge of Search Engine Optimization, Google Analytics, Mobile Marketing, Social Media Marketing, etc.

    Companies require digital marketing people for marketing their products and services and a good job scope exists in this segment.

  • HR Management - Every organization requires HR persons to manage human relations issues and work. A diploma in HR management is the gateway to these positions especially in small companies as big companies generally hire MBAs for the purpose.

    There are many courses available under this like Human Resources, Training, Business Performance, Recruitment and Selection, etc.

  • Event Management - Event management has emerged as a prospective area where a person can get a job managing an event. A course in event management can help a student to acquire the necessary skills to work in this area.

    There are many courses available like Event Management, Event Management & Public Relations, Course in Wedding and Events Photography, etc. Enterprising young people or a group can start their service for event management.

  • Mass Communication and Journalism - Today we are living in an age of media and social media. There is an important role for a person having qualifications in Mass Communication and Journalism in this scenario.These courses are easily available as many institutes offer them.

    After doing a diploma in Journalism one can try for a job position like Journalist, News Writer, Content Writer, Anchor/Host, Investigative Journalist, etc.

Introduction

Different students will have different aspirations. Some students like to go for higher studies and start their career in a senior position. Some students want to start their career as early as possible and continue on the job. In addition to the aspirations of the students, the family background and financial status will have a big say on this.

These days are very competitive and a lot of competition is prevailing in all areas. Generally, students who obtained a minimum of 50% marks in HSC are eligible to apply. The seats will be allotted based on the performance of the candidate in the entrance test.
  4. Diploma in Fashion Designing: This is also a very lucrative field and employment potential is very high. My friend's daughter did this course and started her fashion designing business and is doing very well in the state of Telangana.
  5. Diploma in Event Management: These days many families do not have time to concentrate on the events that are happening in their families like marriages, birthday celebrations, marriage day celebrations etc. They outsource the management of these events. Many organizations employ candidates with diplomas in event management. After acquiring some experience the candidates can think of starting their own business in this line.
