Can I become a College Principal in India after teaching Class 12 students in a higher secondary school?
Author: Partha K. Post Date: 02 Mar 2024 Teaching in a school and teaching in a college are two different processes. These two are not at all related. This must be very clear.
An applicant can be a faculty member (Lecturer/Associate Professor/Professor) in a college if he/she has a PG degree with a good percentage, clears NET/SLET and preferably possesses a Ph.D. degree.
A faculty member (Professor/Associate Professor/Lecturer) in a college can be nominated/selected as the Principal of that college if he/she has total experience as faculty member in the college/colleges for at least ten years.
Author: DR.N.V. Srinivasa Rao Post Date: 13 Feb 2024 There are prescribed requirements published by UGC for a principal's post in a college.
1. The Candidate should be a postgraduate in the concerned subject. If it is a normal degree college PG in any subject is OK. But for Engineering college PG in any Engineering subject is required.
2. PhD in a concerned subject is also required to become a principal of a college.
3. A minimum of 10 years experience as a Professor/ Associate Professor/ Assistant Professor is also a must.
If you possess the above criteria you can become a college Principal. All recognised institutions will follow the above rule in appointing their Principals. There are many junior colleges where only Intermediate is taught. They are called Junior colleges. There they may not ask for a PhD degree. They may accept teaching experience in higher secondary to become a principal of a junior college.
These days there are many private colleges and coaching centres. The management can appoint anybody as principal. If there is no UGC recognition there will be no specified rules for such colleges.
