After B.Com, there are many higher degrees like MCom, MBA, CA, ICWA etc. The chances of getting a high salary and senior positions will increase with higher degrees. Even then there are very good options for B.Com graduates. A candidate can try for any of these jobs and while working he should go for improving his skills so that he will prosper well in his career.
The following are the options- 1. Banking sector: There are many government banks and private banks also. There are many positions in these banks for a B.Com degree holder. The eligibility for a candidate to join a bank is a graduation in any subject. But chances for commerce graduates will be high. 2. Finance Sector: There are many opportunities in the finance sector including non-banking financial companies. These organisations recruit many B.Com graduates in junior positions. But with experience, they can go up in their career. Doing certification courses etc while working is good for people working in these organisations. 3. Accounting Jobs All organisations will have an accounting section. That section will be maintaining accounts of that organisation. B.Com graduates will be offered office Assistant posts in these departments. 4. Government Jobs: The state and the central governments will have positions suitable for these people. Group II and Group III jobs in state government are good for B.Com students. Staff Selection Commission will be announcing various posts available in the Central government. 5. Insurance field: There are many insurance companies like LIC, GIC, OIC etc. These companies will have openings for B.Com graduates. 6. Practising auditors and tax advisers: There are many CAs and ICWAs we will be doing audits and taxation. They will be known as Chartered accountants. They will be taking some juniors to work under them. They prefer B Com, graduates. These graduates can work with them and while working do their CA and ICWA etc. Once they obtain such degrees, they will have a good future. 7. Entrepreneurs: Candidates who completed their B Com and have an interest in starting their own business can do that. They can become employers rather than employees.

This graduation degree gives a lot of opportunities for higher academic studies as well as a variety of jobs in different sectors and cadres.
Though a general notion is that B.Com graduates are employed in accountancy field only, it is not so limited in scope. Being a general graduation degree, B.Com graduates can apply to any job in the public and private sector where the minimum eligibility is a 3 year graduation degree.
Let us see in brief the main areas where B. Com graduates get employed.
1. Accounting field: B Com graduates are preferred in establishments in their accounts department. It may be from a small proprietary business to large scale organization with a separate accounts department. As accounting is a basic need in every business and even in individual life there is always an easy scope of getting a job.
2. Banking Sector: Banks were a field where a large number of Commerce graduates got employment in the past decades. Till recently B. Com graduates got appointment as Bank Officers as the minimum academic eligibility was Graduation in First Class. Still banks recruit commerce graduates as Assistants and field level assistants
3. Government sector: In any recruitment in Central or State level public recruitments (Public Service Commissions) where the minimum/maximum eligibility is a graduation degree, B. Com graduates can apply.
4. Self-employment: One need not be in permanent rolls of an employer. As most small business needs formal consolidation and filing of statutory returns and statements at prescribed periodicity with a time frame, this self-service B. Com graduates can take work from different sources and work from home or on few days at the offices. That can give more freedom and flexibility of work and remuneration.
5. Teaching and tuition: Commerce graduates can be teachers in schools and tuition centers as well as they can take up individual tuitions and coaching.
6. Accountancy firms: Accountancy firms cannot exclusively employ CA s and MBAs etc. They need general level employees also. B. Com graduates are most suitable in such situations. This will also benefit the B. Com candidates as it can provide better hands-on-job opportunity as well as prospect for higher studies.
7. IT sector: It is a general notion that IT sector employs only Engineering and computer graduates. That is not the truth. They employ or campus recruit B. Com graduates and we can see a large number of Commerce Graduates in various reputed IT companies.
The above is just a nutshell general narration, but scope for career after graduation in Commerce is still wider.
