Author: Drupad Madhavan Post Date: 28 Mar 2023 Last year I used to work for an Event Management company and one of the last projects I work on was an event named Utopian Dystopia. It consisted of Art, technology and Design and we invited artists and designers from all over India to come over and curate their works. During this experience, I became very close with a designer from Hyderabad named Mehdi Sajid. We would often go together to have chai in the evenings and would have conversations about various topics in life. I eventually told him my plans to attempt CEED as he had already graduated from NID Ahmedabad and even taught at IIT Hyderabad for a while. He then gave me a few suggestions and advice such as to work more on Design thinking and problem-solving skills. He also asked me to brush up on my analytical and logical reasoning skills and practice drawing more often. He even suggested to me a few textbooks which he used while attempting CEED, such as 'Design Drawing' by Francis DK Ching and 'Art Perception' by David Cycleback.
He advised me to keep checking various forums to be up to date on the structures and syllabus of the exam. Recently to my knowledge, the paper is divided into 2 parts where the first part will be a computer-based MCQ exam while the second part will have a drawing test with questions on core design knowledge.
I hope you are up to date on the syllabus and keep checking the official website of CEED as well as the University where you keen on applying. All the best !
Author: Samuel Unni Post Date: 27 Mar 2023 CEED is a national-level test administered by IIT Bombay once a year in January/February. It is a screening test for admission to postgraduate design programmes provided by several institutes around India.
The exam is divided into two parts: Part A and Part B. Part A consists of 50 multiple-choice questions designed to assess your visual and spatial abilities, environmental and social awareness, analytical and logical reasoning, language and creativity, design thinking and problem-solving, and observation and design sensitivity. Section A has no negative marking, and each correct answer is worth two points.
Section B is a subjective assessment of your design and creative abilities. It consists of 6-8 questions that assess your visualisation and spatial ability, design thinking and problem solving, drawing abilities, communication abilities, creativity, and analytical and logical reasoning. Part B marks are used to determine the final merit list, and a negative marking of 0.6 marks is used.
It's vital to note that the CEED syllabus is fluid, and examiners can ask questions on any design-related topic. To gain a better knowledge of the exam format and syllabus, refer to previous years' question papers and take mock examinations.
