CET, Trivandrum or TKM, Kollam - which is better college for engineering?
Author: Sheo Shankar Jha Post Date: 09 Aug 2023 First of all, I would like to provide the readers a brief description of the two colleges - CET, Trivandrum and TKM Kollam before concluding which one is better in terms of their academic performance and placements -
1) CET Trivandrum- It was established in 1939 by Sri Chithirai Thirunal Balrama Varma - the Maharaja of Travancore. This college has been accredited by NBA and is currently affiliated to the university of Kerala excepting the Architectural Department which is affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University.
Since 2022, CET has started its placement drive and around 70% candidates have got their offer letters so far from the different recruiters such as Oracle, Deloitte, Wipro, Accenture, BPCL, Bosch, Siemens and many more. While the average salary of the successful candidates is approximately Rs 4 Lakhs and the maximum being Rs 34 lakhs and in the year 2022, 11 candidates were offered to the pay bracket of highest salaries ie Rs 34 lakhs.
This college would definitely attract students in view of their satisfactory package offer of the recruiters.
2) TKM Kollam also known asThangal Kunju Musaliar College of Engineering was established in the year 1958 at Kollam. It is a government- aided college presently affiliated to APJ Abdul Kalam University. Around 60% of the candidates have got their offers from the different recruiters such as TCS, Wipro, L&T, MRF, Federal Bank etc. Since the recruiters are from the different segments including tyre companies and private banks, the pay packets of the candidates in some cases might not be satisfactory with their minimum pay - outs to the extent of Rs 2 Lakh where as the average being Rs 3.5 lakhs.
While considering which one is better between the two, I would recommend CET Trivandrum in terms of better pay- package and placement -opportunities.
