The University of Mumbai has a dedicated wing for distance and open education known as the 'Institute of Distance and Open Learning (IDOL)'. Earlier it was conceived as the Directorate of Correspondence Courses but in the year 1993, it was upgraded to IDOL and acquired status as a 'University Institution'.

Courses offered and eligibility

IDOL offers various distance and open learning courses under the CBCS (Choice Based Credit System) pattern to eligible candidates. It has two academic sessions - one starting in June month of the current year to May month of the next year and the other starting in January and ending in December every year. From January to December, it offers F.Y.B.A., F.Y.B.Com., M.A.-Part I, M.Com.-Part I, M.A.Edu.-Part I courses.

The eligibility criterion for these courses is in general a pass in the qualifying examination.
