Whenever a person applies for a job position then his or her biodata is seen critically by the interview board. If the person has taken more time in passing an exam or completing a course than the stipulated time then it is obvious that the board would take cognisance of that fact and may ask questions regarding that delay or consider that while awarding the marks for the interview performance of the candidate. If the student had some genuine family problem or serious reason behind that gap in the studies or repeated attempts, then it can be excused as a matter of circumstances. But if it is due to lack of studies and lack of hard work done by the student then it would definitely reflect as a negative point in the CV of the candidate.

For some jobs, there is a written test also and the performance of the candidate in the written test is of prime importance. If he had done exceedingly well in that test, then the fact of his repeating a course would not come to prominence and the interview board might not have taken that so seriously.

The selection of the candidate and then making a career by him depends on many factors and the fact of his repeating an exam is not the only thing that would be considered for his eligibility.

In my opinion career options will be narrow for a person who did not complete his course in time. For example, a UG course is of is 3 years duration. A candidate should complete all the formalities to qualify for the examination within that stipulated period only. A candidate who takes more than 3 years for completion may not have the same options as the other candidates.

The interview panel is not known to us and we will get introduced to them through our CV only. The selection panel may not get a good impression if the candidate completes his degree compartmentally. But after putting up some experience, there may not be many issues in getting promotions in the same organisation, if the candidate is sincere and perform in a better way. There the basis for ranking will be based on your performance in the organisation.

We all know that competition for jobs is very high. A recruiter will get many applications and he will have many options to select the best candidates from the applied lot. So they keep these repeaters in the last place in the selection list. The only way to overcome this problem is to get some certification in skills that are very useful for the industry today as an additional qualification. Once we obtain such certification, our chances may improve.
