Engineering admissions in Kerala are primarily conducted through the Kerala Engineering Architecture Medical (KEAM) entrance examination, which is conducted by the Commissioner of Entrance Examinations (CEE), Kerala. The exam is usually held in April every year.

Eligibility criteria for KEAM:

  • Candidates should have completed their 10+2 education from a recognized board.

  • Candidates should have secured a minimum of 50% marks in Mathematics separately, and 50% marks in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry combined in the qualifying examination.

  • Candidates should be Indian citizens.

Application process:

  • Candidates can apply online through the official website of CEE Kerala.

  • The application fee is Rs. 700 for General category candidates and Rs. 300 for SC/ST candidates.

Exam pattern:

  • The exam consists of two papers – Paper 1 (Physics and Chemistry) and Paper 2 (Mathematics).

  • Each paper has 120 multiple choice questions, and the duration of each paper is 2.5 hours.

  • The exam is conducted in offline mode (pen and paper-based).

Admission process:

  • After the announcement of the KEAM results, a centralized counseling process is conducted by the CEE Kerala.

  • Candidates are called for counseling based on their KEAM ranks.

  • The counseling process involves the submission of the candidate's choices of courses and colleges and the allotment of seats based on their ranks and choices.

Apart from KEAM, some colleges in Kerala also accept scores from other entrance exams such as JEE Main and Kerala University Engineering Entrance Examination (KUEE). However, the eligibility criteria, application process, and admission process may vary for each entrance exam.

1. Kerala state is having some state universities and colleges affiliated with them. There are many colleges both in the Public sector as well as the Private sector. The admissions for these colleges are based on the marks obtained in the intermediate or equivalent course and the marks obtained in the KEAM examination. Each will be given a 50% weightage and the total mark will be calculated. The admissions will be conducted by counselling method for the students who got the eligible ranks.

2. There are many private universities in Kerala. They will also offer engineering courses. The admission will be based on the rank obtained in the entrance test conducted by that university.

3. NIT Kerala will be admitting candidates based on the ranks obtained in JEE. The admission procedure followed is the same nationally in all NITS.

4. IIT, Kerals will also be admitting candidates based on the rank obtained in JEE. The admission procedure followed is the same in all the IITs in India.

5. Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, is Deemed to be University under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. It is an autonomous institute. The admission to engineering graduation courses is based on JEE only. The cut-off mark will be decided by the management from year to year.
