Sainik Schools in India admit students in classes 6th and 9th. The admission process usually starts in the months of October and November for the academic year starting in the following year. The admission is open to both boys and girls who fulfill the eligibility criteria, which includes age limit, educational qualification, and medical fitness.

For admission to class 6th, the student should be between 10 to 12 years of age as on 31st March of the year of admission, and should have completed class 5th from a recognized school. For admission to class 9th, the student should be between 13 to 15 years of age as on 31st March of the year of admission, and should have completed class 8th from a recognized school.

The admission process usually consists of a written examination, followed by a medical examination and an interview. The written examination tests the student's knowledge in subjects such as Mathematics, English, General Science, and Social Studies. Sainik Schools are run by the Sainik Schools Society (SSS). SSs is an autonomous organisation under the Ministry of Defence, Govt of India. These Schools are English medium residential schools and are affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Sainik Schools prepare Cadets to join the National Defence Academy (NDA), Khadakwasla (Pune), Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala and other Training Academies for officers. At present, there are a total of 33 Sainik Schools across the country.

Sainik Schools admit students at the level of Class VI and Class IX. Admission is based on the performance of candidates in the All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination (AISSEE). The eligibility criteria for the admission test are as follows:

1) For admission to Class VI: Candidates (Both Boys and Girls) whose age is between 10 and 12 years as on 31 March 2023, which means they should have been born between 01 April 2011 and 31 March 2013 (both days inclusive) can apply for admission to the academic year 2023-24 for Class VI.

2) For admission to Class IX: Candidates ( Both Boys and Girls) whose age is between 13 and 15 years as on 31 March 2023, for admission to Class IX, which means they should have been born between 01 April 2008 and 31 March 2010 (both days inclusive) can apply for admission to the academic year 2023-23 for Class IX.
