Pursuing the MBBS program is a dream career for many youngsters in our country. If you have chosen your career as a doctor, you should be committed to your profession with extensive knowledge and hard work. I am proud to say that my son, a PICU consultant now (Paediatric Intensive Care Unit), is dedicated to his profession and keeping updated in his field. He cracked the TNPCEE conducted by Anna University, Guindy, Chennai, and joined MBBS at the prestigious Madras Medical College in the late 90s. At present, NEET (National Eligibility Entrance Test) is conducted by the NTA for admissions into medical colleges all over India. Studying MBBS indeed involves a lot of patience and humanity too, in my opinion.

MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery) is a UG program in the field of medicine and the duration of the course has been five and half years with a one-year internship. The course curriculum includes Anatomy, Physiology, pathology, Preventive Medicine, Biochemistry, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Paediatrics, Ophthalmology, Surgery, Orthopaedics, etc.

Eligibility Criteria
The MBBS applicants need to clear plus 2 board examination from a recognized board (CBSE, ICSE, State) with a minimum of 50%, 45%, and 40% marks for the general category, PWD, and OBC/SC/ST respectively in the science subjects (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) and English being the core language.

The MBBS aspirants need to fulfill the minimum age limit of 17 years on December 31st of the year they appear for the NEET test and there is no upper age limit.

Most importantly the medical aspirants must be qualified for the NEET UG 2023 entrance exam conducted by the NTA with a good percentile of ranks to get admission into top medical colleges run by the government and other colleges like JIPMER, AFMC, AIIMS, etc. The NEET is essential to get admission into private colleges in India and medical colleges abroad as well. if Indian nationals wish to practice/pursue higher studies in India after completing MBBS in foreign countries they are required to clear the screening exam known as FMGE (Foreign Medical Graduate Examination) conducted by the MCI/National Medical Commission in India.

The National Medical Commission, previously known as the Medical Council of India, has been authoritative for admission procedures for medical colleges. Based on the NEET ranking, seats have been allotted for MBBS, BDS, and other courses through counselling sessions in various States of India.

Dear aspirant,

Please note that you cannot proceed for your MBBS course unless you fulfil the following criteria for the process of your admission in MBBS or even other countries apart from India. The following are the essential conditions for your admission to the said course according to the existing eligibility for pursuance of this course-

1) The aspirants must have completed 17 years of age on 31st December of the year when they are to appear for the NEET test.
2) They must have passed class 12 Board of a recognised institution including both State Board, Central Board such as CBSC or ISC with at least 50% marks for the general categories, 40% marks for SC /ST/ OBC Candidates or 45% for PWD candidates in their final examinations with the papers Physics, Chemistry and Biology/ Biotechnology apart from taking up English as one of core papers.
3) Finally the aspirants need to qualify NEET test conducted by NTA with the percentiles such that they could fit the admission process of MBBS of the medical college where they would like to be inducted for admission.
4) Please note that it would not be possible for you to continue your MBBS unless you qualify the NEET Examination.
5) This must be kept in mind that your MBBS degree would not be valid unless the same is approved by Medical Council of India.
6) Even for other destinations excluding India, there is no other rout to go ahead your mission unless you qualify NEET. If interested for your admission in Russia, Ukraine or other destinations other than India, there is no escape from NEET. Again your MBBS degree of the foreign university has to be approved by MCI so that you can further take up your higher studies in medical courses or practicing as a medical profession.
7) If you are interested to have your admission through the management quota of any recognised medical college on the premium charges for persuasion of your MBBS course, you must be a NEET qualified candidate.
8) You must keep this thing in mind that NEET is the essential criteria for the medical aspirants even for the courses of Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Unani, etc apart from other diplomas such as X- ray technician, Optician, Pathologist etc. Hence there is wider coverage of the students for the NEET test.

MBBS is an undergraduate course in medical sciences. The duration is about five and a half years. In this course, Pre-Clinical, Para-Clinical, and Clinical subjects will be taught.

Eligibility criteria:
1. Candidates who studied Physics, Chemistry and Biology in the 12th class or any other recognised equivalent course are eligible to join the course.
2. The seat allotment will be on the basis of a national-level test called the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) result.

NEET will be conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA). This is not a computer-based test and it is a paper and pen-based test only. All colleges in India will admit candidates based on the rank obtained in this test only.

The NEET application form is to be filled out online. The application will be available on www.neet.nta.nic. By going on to that site and registering on new registration, the application form page will open up. Once you go through the instructions and confirm that you understood the instructions, the application will be opened up and all the asked-for details are to be submitted and the application fee is to be paid.
Candidate should attend the test and based on the rank obtained a seat will be allocated. The counselling process will be online. This year I understand that 91,927 MBBS, 27,698 BDS, 52,720 AYUSH, and 603 BVSc seats in around 612 medical and 315 dental colleges of India including AIIMS and JIPMER will be filled through this NEET test.
