ChatGPT is an AI-based application that can answer our queries in a precise and structured way. As a reference and resource, it is a good source for students as well as other people who require correct information from the internet.
Before the advent of ChatGPT or other similar apps, we were using search engines for our queries and were getting some top sites in the search and then going through them and finding the required information. To that extent, the job of finding desired information has become easier and there is significant time saving also in this AI-driven process.
As far as the question of the usefulness of ChatGPT for the students, I have a strong feeling that already there are standard textbooks and guidebooks where authentic answers to all the queries are easily available and students can go through them and should not approach ChatGPT for each and everything.
There is a common belief now that AI applications will help students to access resources quickly. That is very true but what the students will do with that type of voluminous information until they do their studies at a sustained pace learning and grasping things in the study process?
So in my opinion the students should use ChatGPT occasionally when they are stuck at some point and want a precise wite up. Going to ChatGPT for small things would be a waste of time. We should use ChatGPT effectively but should not fall for it as an addiction.
Moreover, students should be cautious and alert in reproducing the AI answers elsewhere because it would look like a machine-generated write-up and would be spotted easily.
So, one has to study that AI material and reframe it in one's way along with adding points and logic from one's side. Then only the usefulness of ChatGPT will be realized.
