How to apply and get admission to BIT Ranchi PhD programs

Eligibility Criteria: Postgraduates in the relevant branch with a minimum of 60% marks or 6.0 CGPA on a ten-point scale can apply for a PhD in the concerned subject. Graduates with minimum 80% marks or 8.0 CGPA on a ten-point scale with a GATE/GPAT score with a minimum of 80 percentile are eligible to apply.
Experienced professionals with a minimum of 2 years can also apply for admission as sponsored candidates. Reservations are applicable as per the existing state government rules and a 5% relaxation in the marks is also allowed
Selection process: Selection for PhD will be a two-stage process: 1) PhD. Written Test (WT): The candidates who applied for PhD admission should take a written test. The test will have multiple-choice types of questions for 100 marks. The questions for 50 marks will be of Aptitude Test type and questions for the remaining 50 marks will be from the specific subject for which applied by the candidate. The duration of the test will be two hours. The questions will follow the sample pattern of NET and GATE/GPAT. There is no system of negative marking for wrong answers. 2) Personal Interview (PI): Candidates who are qualified in the written test will be shortlisted for an interview. The interview of the selected candidates will be conducted per the schedule mentioned on their website. 3) Candidates who have UGC-CSIR/DBT/BINC/ICMR-JRF and all other similar all-India fellowships-based written tests for PhD admission may be exempted from the Written Test but the candidate has to appear in the interview. However, these candidates will not get any financial assistance from this institute. Fellowships: Some candidates selected for PhD will be offered a fellowship amount of Rs. 25,000/- per month for the first two years and Rs. 28,000/- per month for the next two years. It will be awarded based on the performance. The minimum marks required for IRF may vary across the departments and shall be decided by an appropriate committee. The IRFs shall be awarded based on the performance in the admission test, academic career, and interview. The candidates who are exempted from writing will not be considered for this fellowship amount as they will be getting financial assistance from some other organization.
Application Procedure: Candidates interested should apply online after the institute releases the admission notification and complete the application formalities online. The link for the online application will be available at www.bitmesra.ac.in. The required fee is to be paid online and apply online only. The following are the documents to be uploaded 1. Pass certificate and Marksheet of Class 10 (bearing date of birth) 2. Marksheet of Class 12 / Intermediate or equivalent 3. Certificate and Marksheets of Graduation 4. Certificate and Marksheets of Post-graduation 5. College Leaving Certificate 6. Migration Certificate (If Applicable) 7. Candidates with qualifications acquired through correspondence or distance learning programs are eligible only if (a) they acquired such qualifications as working professionals / while in employment, (b) the programs are recognized by the DEC- UGC-AICTE or MHRD, (c) they have passed the qualifying examination at the time of applying, with minimum requisite marks as given in eligibility criteria. They must enclose photocopies of (i) work experience certificate (ii) pass certificate and mark sheets of qualifying examination (iii) proof of the program recognized by the DEC-UGC-AICTE or MHRD on the letterhead of the Institute/College /University, with their application. 8. UGC-CSIR/DBT/BINC/ICMR-JRF and all other similar all-India fellowships based on a written test for pursuing a Ph.D. Admit card and Score card (if applicable) 9. Caste certificate / special category certificate (if applicable) in a proper format, signed by appropriate authority of rank not less than SDO. 10. Sponsorship letter, NOC, Experience Certificate, and facilities available to carry out the research work at their place of work (if applicable) for Sponsored/Part-Time candidates.

How to apply
Interested candidates must visit the official website and read the instructions carefully. The application forms are available on the Institute website https://www.bitmesra.ac.in/. To fill out an online application form, click on the link "APPLY ONLINE" to register for the program and create a password for the application process. Eligible candidates must complete and submit the application form in an online mode only. After that fill out the application form with all the mandatory details. Pay the application fee of INR 1,500 (General /OBC candidates) and INR 1,000 (SC/ST candidates) through net banking/ debit or credit cards, etc. Candidates must ensure that they apply within the due date.
After payment of the application fee, you need to submit the required documents and click on the 'submit now' button. Take a printout of the application form for future use.
Selection Process
Selection will be done based on the performance of the applicants in a Written Test and Personal Interview.
