Indeed encouraging critical thinking and problem-solving skills in students is crucial in preparing them for success in the future. In my opinion, here are some tips on how to promote these skills.

1. Encourage inquiry-based learning: Encourage students to ask questions, investigate, and solve problems on their own. For example, in a science class, instead of simply teaching the scientific method, give students a problem to solve and have them use the method to find a solution. This approach encourages them to think critically about the problem and develop their problem-solving skills.

2. Foster a growth mindset: Encourage students to embrace challenges and view mistakes as opportunities for learning. For example, in a math class, give students a difficult problem to solve and encourage them to work through it together, emphasizing that it's okay to make mistakes and learn from them. This approach helps students develop resilience and perseverance in problem-solving. This also help students to recover easily from failures.

3.Use real-life scenarios: Incorporate real-life scenarios into the curriculum to help students connect what they're learning to the real world. For example, in a social studies class, have students research and analyse a current event or a historical event and come up with solutions to the issues presented. This approach helps students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills in a meaningful context.

4. Collaborative learning: Encourage collaborative learning where students work together in groups to solve problems. This approach helps students develop communication and teamwork skills, as well as critical thinking and problem-solving skills. For example, in an English class, have students work in groups to analyze a book and come up with a creative solution to a problem presented in the book.

5. Emphasize reflection: Encourage students to reflect on their learning and problem-solving process. For example, after a project or activity, have students write a reflection paper or participate in a class discussion to discuss what they learned and how they approached the problem. This approach helps students develop metacognition and self-awareness, which are important skills for critical thinking and problem-solving.

By implementing these strategies in the classroom, parents and educators can help students develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills that will benefit them in their academic and professional lives.

My brother is a teacher, and he always pushes his students to grow in their ability to think critically and solve problems. He thinks that preparing pupils for the problems of the real world is crucial. He achieves this, for instance, by assigning students practical tasks that call on them to use their imaginations and come up with answers to issues.
For example, he once challenged his students to construct a bridge solely out of paper and tape. They had to use critical thinking skills to determine the best bridge design, the strength of the materials they were utilising, and how to get around challenges like weight and stability. Although it was difficult, the students were enthusiastic and involved as they collaborated to find creative solutions.

By requiring his students to examine and analyse information, my brother also promotes critical thinking and problem-solving. He once gave them a newspaper story and asked them to find any biases, logical flaws, or inaccuracies in the author's reasoning. Through this practice, individuals improved their analytical abilities and learned how to evaluate the material they come across.

In general, my brother's strategy aims to establish a setting in the classroom that promotes critical thinking and problem-solving. He is preparing his students for success in the real world by providing them with the opportunity to think creatively, analyse data, and collaborate to find solutions.

I think the best way to encourage critical thinking and problem-solving skills in young students and students all around it is by initially exposing them to puzzles and riddles. Once they adapt to work out and solve the problems, slowly increase the difficulty and move on to aptitude questions.

I remember how one of my professors initiated critical thinking at the beginning of our introduction section at our university. He was telling us about this paragraph in a book about a woman getting a bucket of water from a well. He finishes and then explains that this book was written at a time when there were no plastic or metal buckets and wooden buckets were used and the amount of pain and energy the woman would have to imply just to get a bucket of water. This just blew my mind and always made me implement questions of HOW and WHY at everything.

The last and most important part is to encourage your students, to not give up and try their best, moreover, encourage them to be creative, ask them to go crazy and find all types of strange solutions. This will encourage them to never cease trying and find multifarious ways to solve it. I wish my answer helps you. All the best!
