How to get a promotion at work fast without experience?
Author: DR.N.V. Srinivasa Rao Post Date: 13 May 2024 Getting a promotion depends more on how an individual is carrying out his duties as of now. Experience will count only for giving a job. Once your duties and responsibilities are defined your promotion will depend more on how successfully you have completed the job.
In big corporate and professional companies, at the beginning of the year, duties and responsibilities will be mentioned and key result areas will be decided. These KRAs will be reviewed periodically and where to improve and where to perform quickly will be decided. After completing the year, the achieved KRA percentages will be calculated and based on the rating obtained, either promotion or increment or termination will be decided.
In some other companies, there will be an assessment programme by the immediate boss and the boss of the immediate boss. Two of them will do the assessment separately and then the next level officers will decide on the course of action. In some organisations, there will be a self-assessment system.
So the performance of the individual will decide whether he will be given a promotion or not. So one should make a plan and work to his maximum and should get positive results in all his tasks. That will improve his chances of getting a promotion.
The following are some of the tips one should follow to get a promotion fast in the organisation= 1. Concentrate on the job. You should perform well. Your performance should get the highest rating among the employees in your area of work at your level. For example, if 10 engineers are there in your department, the engineer who gets the highest rating will stand a better chance of getting a promotion. Expecting a promotion without performance will be futile. 2. A person who is doing well in his role may get a good increment, but that is not sufficient for promotion. You should show the potential in you to the higher-ups. You should show your inquisitiveness to take on higher responsibilities by showing interest in troubleshooting and problem-solving. 3. Be a team person. Be good with your team members and colleagues. Never misbehave with anybody. Be friendly but never get familiarised. Give respect to others even though they don't respect you. 4. Look beyond your responsibilities: Never limit yourselves to your present responsibilities. Look beyond that and put in your ideas to your bosses whenever a chance comes. 5. Generally, we should listen carefully when others talk. whether juniors or seniors. Listen to understand, not to defend or oppose. Never say no immediately to your boss. Listen carefully, understand properly and after taking some time put forward your thoughts in a diplomatic way to your boss.
Follow the above tips, get the highest rating and be ready to get promoted to the next level. These hints are from my experience and I got a promotion every three years in my organisation and I was the only person who got such a fast promotion in our organisation.
Author: Sheo Shankar Jha Post Date: 14 May 2024 There is such a possibility in the Public Undertaking Unit such as SAIL where the aspirants can have this opportunity of getting a promotion at a faster rate if they are the internal candidates having secured at least 65% marks in their graduation exam regardless of the stream they have opted for in their educational careers. It implies that all the aspirants will be covered under this scheme such as engineering graduates, ordinary graduates of science, commerce and arts, MBAs of the different streams, etc. Even the candidates who possess qualifications like AMIE of the different streams or a degree earned through the Indian Institute of Metals.
Both AMIE and IIM can be pursued by the internal candidates passing either of the two taking the subjects partially in the summer and winter sessions. It is a boon for the employees to acquire either of them with their self-studies so as to be eligible for changing their career from non-executive status to an executive one. These qualifications are recognised as equivalent to degrees and have the approval of HRD of the Central Government.
The management recruits the candidates for both the Management Trainee Technical & Management Trainee Administration Schemes. The SAIL conducts the examinations for fresh candidates possessing the qualifications stated above through the open advertisements indicating their age & their eligibility criteria. The internal candidates need to apply through proper channels irrespective of their designation. The internal aspirants need to clear both the written tests( applicable to them) coupled with oral interviews. Finally, they are inducted as the Executive Trainee. This scheme provides the candidates with a boon to enjoy the promotion of the executive cadre devoid of their experience in the lines they are too attached to.
