The Ph.D. interview process is a crucial step in the application process and a candidate needs to create a positive impression in the interview. Here are some vital points which can be helpful to a Ph. D interviewee-
1) A little effort is to be made to trace out the interviewer, and though it might appear to be a difficult task initially the same can be resolved through the personal interaction of the university officials. In that way, the candidate can collect a lot of information regarding his likes and dislikes and his expectations. Such an effort will help the interviewee a lot.
2) The candidate needs to file all the research papers or presentations systematically so that these documents are easily accessible if the interviewer asks for them to verify his credentials.
3) The candidate should practice the common interview questions normally asked by the members of the interview committee. He might get valuable information from the senior colleagues who faced the interviews in the same department in the past.
4) The interviewee should maintain the punctuality of timing. Any delay in respect of time might create a negative impression on the members of the interview.
5) The candidate must review the department's website and recent publications to get the latest updates.
6) The candidate must reflect on his research interests and ideas if he gets an opportunity to showcase his expertise during the process of the interview.

A PhD personal interview is something different from routine job interviews. The questions will more depend on the subject of our Ph.D. We all know that the first impression is the best impression. So all candidates should try to give a good performance.

The following are some important points for successfully completing an interview-
1. Be attentive. Be observant.
2. Be confident. Give answers to the questions confidently. Don't use words like "I think".
3. Be firm and be polite. Never show arrogance while answering. At the same time, never accept any wrong statement made by anybody. Differ with it politely.
4. Use proper language. English should be flawless. Be fluent and never blink while talking.
5. To impress the members make a PowerPoint presentation if the committee allows it.
6. While making the presentation never read what is written on the desktop. Instead explain the subject taking a clue from the point written in the presentation. The presentation should be crisp and should have all the required information. Also, focus on the audience and not on the screen.
7. Don't guess the answers without proper understanding. Not answering is better than giving a wrong answer.
8. Answers should be straight to the point asked and never to be extended.
9. Wear a formal dress and shoes.
10. Look fresh and be smiling.
11. Don't laugh at anybody even though their questions are irrelevant or foolish.
12. Use proper and simple words to convey what you want to say so that their understanding of it will be good.
