How to select the best college for studying B E / B Tech?
Author: DR.N.V. Srinivasa Rao Post Date: 01 Jun 2023 There may be many colleges to study engineering courses. But all colleges are not open to all students. Each college will have some specialisations and there will be some sanctioned seats only in each subject in each course. So every college will try to accommodate the best students so that their college will have a good name in the market. How a student looks for a good college. a college will also see a good student within the framework of rules and regulations by which they are governed.
There are many ways to know about a college and its strengths and weaknesses. A student should explore them before taking a decision. There may be many very good colleges but the rank an individual obtained will only make him eligible to join in the best college. Without getting qualified in JEE mains, what is the use of thinking about a seat in NIT?
So the students' first point is to concentrate and work hard and get the best rank possible in the qualifying examination as well as in the entrance test. These two only will decide which college will accommodate you. Once you have the list of such colleges with you, you can select the best among those colleges by seeing the various points about those colleges.
The following are some of the ways a student can adopt to know about the college.
1. Talk to the seniors whom you know and who are studying in that college. You can talk to them about the faculty, infrastructure, discipline, facilities and placement chances etc. That will help you in knowing facts about that college.
2. Visit their websites: The student can go through the website of the college. It will help him in understanding the facts about the college. What is the maximum rank of the student who got admitted into the college last year? What are the companies that are conducted campus placement interviews in that college? What is the minimum and maximum pay packet offered by the companies to the students of that college? How much percentage of students of that college are getting recruited from that college? Such aspects can be known by going through the website.
3. Visit the college: All our family members visited 3 colleges where there is a chance for my son to get a seat in Engineering. As a parent, I visited that college and I spoke to the principal of that college also. We spoke to some students there and also some teachers and non-teaching staff also. This activity gave us some good input about the college. The same thing can be done by the parents of the students to know about that college. This may not be possible for all colleges and all students. But wherever possible, we can try this.
4. Go through the reviews: We fill find reviews posted by the students of the college on the internet about the college they studied. So going through such reviews will also help you in spotting a good college.
5. Go through the ranks and certificates: There are many institutes like NIRF which are conducting surveys and gathering information and ranking the colleges every year. Go through the ranking that the college obtained. Also, find out about the recognitions from the sanctions statutory bodies like UGC etc.
Once you have the information, give rankings on your own to each parameter and see which college is getting the best rank and that can be taken as the best available college to you.
In my opinion, you can give more weightage to placement records in the first place. Then the infrastructure and capabilities of the faculty. You can also add parameters like projects that are being handled by the college, research facilities the institute is having, publications from the college in peer-reviewed journals etc. The interaction the college is having with the industry and how many students are getting internship chances in the industries etc. will also add value to the college.
Author: Dev Arora Post Date: 03 Jun 2023 It is a big question to students while opting for a college that is the best college that would be worth joining and imbibes all qualities of a good professional in them. Here are a few points which you can check before opting for a college for B.E./B.Tech:
Check the college's reputation in the market. Try which is very reputable and offers a good education structure. Because reputable institution offers chances of attracting more opportunities in the form of college events, inter-college competitions as well as at the time of college placements. Also, the college's reputation enhances your brand value.
Try to look at the college's teaching methodology. Whether they conduct regular workshops and practical classes as in B.Tech these things matter a lot. Try to track the past records of the course faculties and whether the college has well-experienced professors.
Although college infrastructure is a secondary thing you can consider it. As whether the college has sufficient space and equipment to conduct practical classes. Also whether there are sufficient other facilities for grooming your personality apart from regular studies.
Colleges generally publish their average package and companies appearing for the placement hiring every year. Try to check the authenticity of it and also you can take guidance from any of the college alumni.

Author: Dr. Paresh Gujarati Post Date: 30 May 2023 I am an assistant professor in an engineering college, so, As per my experience, I would like to highlight a few points one can ponder before finalizing the college for the B E or B Tech.
Normally admission to any engineering college is done based on merit and through a state admission committee. for example, in Gujarat, engineering admissions are based on ACPC (Admission Committee for Professional Courses) wherein based on your merit and your choice filling process, you will be allotted a college.
To finalize an engineering college, one has to answer the following questions
Are you focussing on college nearer to your home town or state?
Are you focussing on government college or private college that will be based on your fees paying capacity?
Is the college AICTE approved?
Is the college's university NAAC accreditated?
Visit the college's website and get an idea of the overall college and its facilities. To get an idea of infrastructure facilities and faculties/teachers, one has to visit the college once questions 1 to 4 are answered.
Visit the college's training and placement department to get an idea of your job scope.
Talk to anyone (existing student, faculty, staff, or even peon) from that college and get an overall viewpoint.
Once you go through these points, you will be able to finalize the college.
