The last time I took the IELTS exam, I chose the computer-based one as I felt it was more comfortable and easier compared to the paper-based exam. Personally, I have been using computers over pen and paper for a while and I guess that adds to the reason. A few of my friends who recently took the exam also chose the computer-based exam and upon enquiring the reason for the same, they stated that most of the computer centres didn't offer the paper test and the centres themselves preferred computer-based exam as it was easier and in a way eco-friendly!

The IELTS is divided into 4 parts- Listening, Speaking, Writing and Reading. If you are someone who is comfortable with a computer and keyboard, then the computer-based test is the one for you as you might find it more comfortable for the overall test as well as especially the writing test. However, if you are less experienced with a computer, then I would advise you to take the paper test as it only involves mostly marking multiple choices and also writing for the same section. In my understanding, the most important factor in IELTS is time management and your preference for either mode of test should definitely be based on time management. I hope you choose the best mode of IELTS and I hope you do well in it. All the best!

There are four parts to IELTS. Listening, reading, writing and speaking tests. The speaking test will be face-to-face and is the same for both computer and paper modes. In both cases, the test format, question types, time allocated to each test part and the content will be the same. There will not be any difference.
The test results will be announced in 3 to 5 days in my opinion if you take the test on a computer where it may take a little more time if you take it on paper and pen mode.

The success in this test will depend more on your time management than other things. So, it is better to decide based on your experience and perfection. If you are fast enough on the computer you can opt for computer mode. If you are not very convenient with the computer, go for paper mode.

I suggested to some of my known contacts to take some old papers available and try on both modes and decide on the type where they can complete the test fast. Anybody can try this. Take some model papers. Answer them on the computer and note down the timing and then answer them on paper mode and note down the timing there. You can select the mode in which you are fast.
