IIT Hyderabad M.Tech IDM admissions

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) at IIT Hyderabad conducts various courses out of which one course is M.Tech. in IDM (Integrated Design & Manufacturing). The duration of the course is 2 or 3 years as per the category of the candidate. The institute claims teaching of modern science and engineering through quality teaching and cutting-edge research. It is having a well-experienced faculty. The faculty members are also engaged in research work in the areas like CFD, Acoustics, Vibration, Controls, Robotics, Thermodynamics, Process Modeling, Optimization, Manufacturing, FEM, Fracture Mechanics, Rapid Prototyping, and Micro-mechanics. As per my understanding, this is only an indicative list and interested candidates can find more by visiting the website of the institute.
There are different ways in which a student can take admitted to an M.Tech. - IDM course in IIT Hyderabad. These are as follows -
1. Candidates having an engineering degree and also qualified in GATE can register on COAP (Common Offer Acceptance Portal). Once all the COAP admission rounds are over, the leftover seats are filled based on performance on written tests, interviews, and GATE scores. Candidates in this category can join a 2-Year or a 3-Year M.Tech program as per choice. Candidates who get admission in this mode are paid a stipend according to MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource & Development) norms.
2. Those Candidates who have a B.Tech. degree from any IIT with a CGPA of 8 and above can also apply for this course and have to appear for a written test and interview and if they get admission then they are paid a stipend according to MHRD norms.
3. Those candidates who are engaged as Junior Research Fellows in the MAE department of IITH for at least 6 months, or have 2 years of experience outside IITH can apply for this course but only for the 3-Year M.Tech. program. A GATE score is not required in this category. They would be selected through written tests and interviews and will also work under the project funded by an external agency and may get a stipend as per the policy of that external agency.
4. With effect from the year 2023 the institute is starting a self-sponsored 2-year M.Tech. program. Admissions will be granted based on the performance of the written test and an interview. A GATE score is not required in this category. Further, no financial support is provided to the students. The fee for this program is approximately 11 Lakh rupees for two years.
I would strongly suggest that interested candidates should visit the institute's website and find all the other relevant details regarding the admission process before applying for the same.

Application procedure:- Following are the steps to fill out the application form
Step 1 - Register using your mobile number, email address, and other basic details
Step 2 - Log in using the registration number and password to fill out the application form. Fill choices in courses for which admission is desired
Step 3 - Upload scanned images of passport-size colored photographs and signature
Step 4: In this step, candidates will have to pay the application fee for the IIT Hyderabad M.Tech application form.
Step 5- Finally submit the application form and take a print of the system-generated filled form. Candidates need not send the hard copy of the form to the IIT Hyderabad office.
Selection procedure:- Selection will be done based on a written test followed by interviews.

M.Tech IDM course is offered by the Mechanical Engineering Department of IIT, Hyderabad. The course will deal with both designing aspects and manufacturing aspects. This course is offered as 2 years course as well as 3 years course. Students who passed their B.Tech in Mechanical and its related subjects and who cleared GATE with good scores with GATE specialisation in Mechanical Engineering or Production Engineering can apply for this
Admission Procedure:
Like any other IIT in India, Hyderabad IIT also allots seats to candidates for M Tech based on the score obtained by the student in GATE. Students seeking admission into IIT Hyderabad M.Tech will have to apply online application form and also register for the Common Offer Acceptance Portal (COAP). Candidates must fulfil the eligibility criteria for applying online. In COAP the candidate has to fill a choice for college and specialisation.
The authorities will check the application and the seat allotment results are to be checked online. Then the fees are to be paid online through COAP to confirm your seat. There are provisions for giving a Stipend as per the norms of MOE, for the selected candidates.
Please note that IIT students having a CGPA of 8.0 or above will be offered seats directly and GATE is not required. But there will be an interview before the allotment of seats. Stipend will be given as per the norms of the Ministry of Human Resources Development, Government of India.
