My sister's son was in Australia for about 8 years. He worked there in a software company. I was discussing with him about the medical field in that country. He told me that doctors get very good salaries and their income levels are very high. Many Indian students who did their degree in medicine try to settle there only. What they have spent on their course can be earned in a year or two, I feel.

Australia is a desired destination for many students not only from India but also from many other countries.

The following are the medical courses available there,
1. Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine
2. Doctor of Medicine (MD) |
3. Bachelor of Medical Studies/ Doctor of Medicine
4. Doctor of Medicine and Surgery (MCHD)
5. MBBS

The duration of the course is about 4 to 6 years.

The eligibility criteria for admission to this course is

1. A pass 12th class or equivalent examination conducted by a recognised board with Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics as optional subjects. The students who secured a minimum of 75% marks only are eligible.

2. Students should clear their NEET conducted by the government of India.
3. The candidate should complete IELTS with at least 6 to 7 in each band) or TOEFL iBT: 72 to 100

4. The students should have completed 17 years of age.

5. Some universities want the students to clear entrance tests conducted by them for admission.

There are many world-class institutions offering medical sciences courses in Australia. A student should join a college where the medium of instruction is English only. Australian MBBS is having recognition almost in all countries. The student should join a college that is having recognitions from the following

1. Ministry of Education, Australia.
2. NMC (National Medical Commission)
3. WHO (World Health Organization)
4. ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates)
5. WFME (World Federation for Medical Education)
6. FAIMER (The Foundation for Advancement of International Medical Education and Research).

The following documents should be available with the candidate before he leaves for admission in Australia.
• Passport (Minimum 18 months validity).
• Class 10th Passing Certificate & Mark sheet.
• Class 12th Passing Certificate & Mark sheet.
• Birth Certificate.
• 10 passport-size Photographs
• Official Invitation letter from the Medical University of Australia.
• Authorization of all documents from the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi.
• Legalization of all documents from the Australian Embassy.
• Visa fees.
• Bank receipt of University 1st year Tuition fee (required for some Universities).
• Medical test documents.

There are many scholarships offered by the Australian Government to International students, I understand. The details of these scholarships should be obtained from the colleges by the students and applied as per the mentioned procedure.

Australia is a very good country, especially for studying MBBS. World over these degrees are recognised. Moreover, the employment opportunities in Australia are increasing every year and medical graduates salaried are very high ranging from INR 50 Lakhs to 1.5 crores per annum, I understand. Hence in my opinion Australia is a good place for medical education.
