In my opinion, we need to think about various aspects of each board to obtain a suitable reply on whether the IB board is dominating other boards. We should check all positive and negative points of each board thoroughly to obtain a firm answer about the best board In India. But what is the necessity to find this answer? Well, in the present globalized educational system, it is not sufficient to decide just a school or steam. Selection of the right board among the available boards in India is also very crucial nowadays which can only be possible if you have a clear idea of each board. Presently, there are basically five boards in India:
  • Central Board of Secondary Education. shortly known as CBSE
  • ouncil for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, shortly known as CISCE
  • International Baccalaureate, shortly known as IB
  • International General Certificate of Secondary Education, Cambridge University, shortly known as IGCSE
  • State Government Recognized Board
Now, let's have a look at each board to get a clear idea of all pros and cons:

CBSE

More than 15000 schools from almost 25 countries including India, Dubai, Malaysia, etc. are affiliated with CBSE. Most of the schools in India including all KVs, DPS, DAV, Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, etc. are affiliated with it. The curriculum is designed in such a way that the main focus of the board is to prepare students for Engineering and Medical entrance examinations in addition to extra curriculum activities. In addition to Science and Mathematics, it focuses on application-based subjects too. Various talent hunt exams and scholarship exams are based on the CBSE syllabus. The board is recognized by most of the colleges in India.

The problem which the students come from the CBSE board faces is that there is very less scope in arts and literature. Also, if a student is unable to crack the entrance exam and wants to take admission to a college recognized by the state university, very fewer numbers of seats remain reserved for the CBSE board.

CISCE Board

Almost 2500 schools from various countries like India, Indonesia, Singapore, UAE, etc. are affiliated with the CISCE board. The board conducts ICSE exams for class 10 and ISC and CVE exams for class 12. Though the syllabus is somehow heavy but it covers a wide range of topics, analytical skills, and practical knowledge. The syllabus is equally focused on language, science, and art.

In spite of all these benefits, students from CISCE will also face problems to get admission to state university-recognized colleges.

International Baccalaureate (IB)

Being established in 1968, the headquarter of the IB board is located in Geneva, Switzerland. Almost 3700 schools are affiliated with the IB Board worldwide including India, the UK, the USA, Australia, etc. out of which almost 150 numbers are in India. Being an international board it is well-recognized by most universities worldwide such as UNESCO, the Council of Europe, the Organisation Internationale de la Francophonie (OIF), etc., as such students of the IB board can easily apply to a foreign university. Accordingly, NRI parents or those who have plans to shift abroad always prefer the IB board.

IGCSE Cambridge Advanced curriculums

The ISCSE board basically wants to prepare its students for International Baccalaureate and CIE A-level as such internationally specialized. While Cambridge IGCSE and Cambridge O Level are offered in the Secondary 2 level for 14-16 years of students, Cambridge Advanced is designed for university and higher education of 16-19 years students which includes
Cambridge International AS and A Level, and Cambridge Pre-U. The board is presently in operation across 120 countries like India, the UK, the USA, etc as such it's also recognized by most foreign universities. The syllabus is focused on various technical subjects and the English language. Like the IB board, it's also another option for NRI parents or those who have plans to shift abroad.

State Board

It is the board recognized by each state govt. of India to provide education in the respective state. SSC and HSC exams are conducted for 10th and 12th-standard students respectively. As the load of the syllabus is moderate, students have a chance to spend their time on extra curriculum activities like sports, dance, music, painting, etc. Students passed from a state board will have a higher chance to get admission to state-recognized colleges due to higher seat reservations for the state board.
The main issue with this board is that students from the state board face difficulties to get admission to a foreign country.

Accordingly, in my view, it is not the right time to say that IB Board is dominating the other International Educational Boards.

Being a parent and an international board facilitator, I appreciate these international boards for providing their true educational ethics and being fair in their implementations.

The IB curriculum is renowned for its emphasis on holistic education, international-mindedness, and the development of critical thinking skills. The IB programs are designed to foster inquiry-based learning, intercultural understanding, and a sense of global citizenship. The IB curriculum is highly regarded by universities worldwide, offering students a competitive edge in their higher education pursuits.

It has gained prominence and has a strong presence in many countries. While it may not necessarily be considered as dominating over other international educational boards, the IB curriculum is highly regarded for its rigorous and comprehensive approach to education.

IB is well-accepted by various world universities. However, other international education boards such as CAIE (Cambridge Assessment International Education) and others also have their own strengths and recognition, making the choice of curriculum dependent on various factors such as individual preferences, future educational goals, and availability of schools in a particular region.
