Is it essential to learn coding for a career as a journalist in India?

So Journalists can utilize their coding skills in analyzing the data they have gathered to outline the proper news with historical data.
Another way is to use coding in storytelling. By storytelling I mean to represent your story in an attractive way with proper data visualization and graphics. Also if a journalist knows coding, he can communicate with the newsroom developers in a better way to explain his expectations and understand their time estimations.
Though there are so many tools nowadays available for all your customizations, coding is always the base of it. This is the reason that coding skills are now preferable even for journalism-related jobs and candiadtes with coding knowledge may get higher salaries.
The main coding languages a journalist can learn are HTML, CSS, and Python. HTML and CSS are useful in presenting your story by creating attractive webpages, etc and Python can help in cleaning and analyzing complex data.

There are many opportunities in India as there are more than 900 private news/television channels and almost all of these require journalists. So the job opportunities are plenty.
The following are the essential qualifications for a person to become a journalist.
1. 12th class pass with a minimum of 50% marks and English should be one of the subjects in intermediate or 12th class. 2. Graduates or Post graduates with a Diploma or Degree in Journalism are preferred by many organisations. 3. Prestigious and standard organisations in the field may ask for a Bachelor's degree in Journalism and Mass Communication (BJMC) degree.
