The importance of PG in medical sciences is increasing from year to year. Doctors and Scientists in the field are trying to find out suitable medicines for various known diseases. The findings are helping doctors in eradicating some serious diseases.

In the process of diagnosing the reason for the disease and medicines that will fight these issues and cure it, the knowledge and specialist approach of the doctors is very important. A normal graduate in medicine may be able to cure a patient for a known disease. But to do research and come out with new solutions a PG is a must, I feel. A Postgraduate will have advanced knowledge in the field of his/her specialisation. That will help them to successfully find out new ways and means in the process of curing.

As the population is increasing, new types of diseases are cropping up and we are hearing about new diseases which were not known earlier. Corona is one recent issue we have all witnessed. When such issues crop up only, we know the importance of research and new pathfinding. In such issues, the role of a PG in medical sciences is very prominent.

These days we are seeing complex health problems and a superficial approach is not yielding proper results. The necessity of a specialist is important in such situations. Recently my granddaughter was sick and she was having light fever and body swelling in some parts. We took her to the doctor who treats her regularly. He is MD in General paediatric Medicine. He started the course but he referred us to a Paediatric nephrologist. He is an MD in Paediatric nephrology and under his direction the regular doctor treated my granddaughter and she became normal in 6 days. Then I realised that some issues can be treated by specialists with MD or MS only. Here we can understand how important is to have a PG.

With the above information. I state that PG is very useful for a medical student The advantages of having a PG are as mentioned below.

1. MBBS is a more generalised course and fundamentals will be taught and all subjects will be given equal importance. But in Post graduation, a candidate will choose the specialisation he/ she is interested in and get in-depth knowledge in that subject. These specialist doctors will have more avenues in the field. They will get hired by corporate hospitals with good pay and perks.

2. Post-graduates will be hired by various academic institutes and research institutes and they can work on finding new paths in the medical field.

3. Postgraduate doctors are preferred these days by the general public as they will have more in-depth knowledge in the area of specialisation.

4. Medical PGs can advocate the importance of hygiene and health in society by actively participating in social development activities. This will help them to improve their client base and they can become more popular in this society.

With the above information. I feel that in the future PG will become a necessity in the medical field. Many people are preferring to go to a PG Doctor only. I have a friend who did his MD in two specialisations, namely Dermatology and paediatrics. He was a professor in a government medical college in Hyderabad and he was having his private clinic also. He is one of the best doctors in dermatology in Hyderabad. If we list out the famous doctors in any city majority will have PG in some specialisation. I feel.

In the coming days, this trend will further increase and hence I am of the opinion that a PG in medical science may become essential for a successful career in this field.

Frankly saying No, it is not necessary to do Postgraduation after MBBS to have a successful medical career. However, pursuing postgraduate education after MBBS can offer several benefits and opportunities for medical professionals.

1. Postgraduate education in medical fields provides advanced knowledge and training that can enhance a physician's clinical and research skills. It can also lead to higher-paying job opportunities and career advancement in medical fields.

2. Postgraduate education can also open doors to specialised medical fields such as cardiology, neurology, oncology, and more, where physicians can have a significant impact on patient care and research.

However, pursuing postgraduate education after MBBS is a personal choice and depends on individual career aspirations and goals. Some medical professionals may choose to pursue further education, while others may choose to specialise through continued clinical experience and training.

In summary, I would say, postgraduate education is not necessary for a successful medical career, but it can offer several advantages and opportunities for medical professionals.

Wish you all the very best for your medical career.

It's not necessary at all to do PG courses after MBBS. However, in the present scenario, it's becoming the need of the hour as the crowd is following the same philosophy. I have talked to various MBBS pursuing candidates of mine who believe that there is nothing after doing just an MBBS and they have to do an MD or MS after that. This is the philosophy a mass crowd is following.

People are looking for specialized doctors rather than general ones. If you are a candidate with just an MBBS degree then in the initial phase of your career it would be difficult to move ahead as in the beginning, the degrees matter a lot. But if you are experienced then you can make something good. As in the long your associations as well as the way how you treats? matters a lot. So the final decision would be yours as you have to slog yourself in both things.

Specialization after MBBS is a good choice if you are looking to start your clinic. MBBS qualification is enough to apply for government jobs and work at hospitals but it will be difficult to work as an independent doctor. People these days prefer doctors with specialization. For example, if someone is suffering from any neuro problem he/she will book an appointment with a neurosurgeon rather than just an MBBS doctor.

In a country like India, you can still get enough out of your MBBS degree because there are not many doctors in the country if we compare with the population. The healthcare field is a big booming industry in a country like India and MBBS qualification can surely benefit you in the long long run but you can go for an MD or a Diploma in any specialization to become a specialist.
