Is it the job prospects or academics that is encouraging more students to opt for studying abroad?
Author: DR.N.V. Srinivasa Rao Post Date: 24 Mar 2023 In my opinion, job prospects are the main reason for students to opt for studying abroad. Another issue is the lack of recognition to merit in India is another reason. A student who secures 90% marks in the qualifying examination has to wait outside the college anxiously thinking about his chances of getting a seat in that college. At the same time, another person with just a minimum percentage of marks happily gets a seat in the college because for other reasons. This situation is making a merit student look at colleges abroad. In our country, unemployment is a big problem. After completing the study in India, getting a job in other countries may be difficult. But once a person goes to a foreign country, chances of getting a job and settling there may be high.

Ask any student what they wish to do after completing their studies and their answers invariably will be on getting a good job. So if they study in colleges/universities having worldwide recognition their chances of securing a job with a high package increase.
There is another set of students who find there are not enough opportunities in India when it comes to research on specific domains. They also think that merit is not recognised in our country as students with fewer marks get a chance to study because of the prevailing reservation system. They go abroad with an interest in academics.

In many foreign countries where population is less and resources are more, the salary structure is very high as compared to our country. So that is the main attraction and lure for the students for going there.
Author: Drupad Madhavan Post Date: 28 Mar 2023 I think students take into aspect both academic and job opportunities while looking for universities abroad. I myself would follow the above regimen and find universities that would provide good placements as well as provide opportunities for research and seminars in my department of study.
I remember my roommate applying to 2-3 universities which he filtered out thoroughly after researching for quality education as well as good opportunities. Even after he got offer letters from two universities, he was sure to go through all the opportunities and chose this one university where he could work part-time as the swimming coach at the university pool!
Author: Abichandh AD Post Date: 28 Mar 2023 I was researching different universities for overseas educational programs when I myself encountered this question. Ultimately, I was searching for a university with the course I wanted to study and filtered it out according to the proficiency of the professors in my department. I never thought more about the job process until and unless I was checking for the fee and then realized that If I had to take a student load, I'd rather look for a university with better placements as such. I then changed the whole way of researching and found a better campus with better placements as well. However, I can only state this about myself, as different students have a different thought processes and each may have their own mission.
