Is it worth doing Graduation and/or Postgraduation in Statistics for potential jobs?
Author: DR.N.V. Srinivasa Rao Post Date: 10 Jan 2024 Statistics is one of the subjects which is having good career prospects. A graduate or post-graduate in this subject will have many job opportunities.
A statistician will collect, analyse, and interpret data. The main responsibilities of a statistician are to design the needed data and assess the result, by applying statistical methodology. He has to present his data analysis in various formats. These days, in this global competition, many companies use statisticians to assess the demand in the market by conducting necessary studies. So, I feel it is a wise decision to study for graduation or postgraduation in statistics. The chances for career growth and high salary will be high for postgraduates.
The following are some of the job opportunities in this field.
!. Data Analyst: Data analysis is becoming very important these days. A data analyst will analyze the required data and give feedback to the decision-making authorities. They apply statistical modelling techniques in analyzing the data.
2. Statistician: Statisticians apply statistical methods to solve real-world problems in various sectors such as healthcare, finance, market research, and environmental science.
3. Statistical Programmer: Statistical programmers will develop and implement statistical algorithms. They develop models using programming languages like R, Python, or SAS. They work with statisticians and data analysts to create software tools and systems for data analysis.
4. Teaching posts: After completing M Sc Statistics, candidates can opt for a lecturer post to teach statistics to graduates. Graduates can become mathematics teachers after completing their Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.).
5. Scientists: These graduates and postgraduates can join various research organisations like the Indian Statistical Institute etc as Scientists.
6. Research Scholars: M. Sc Statistics persons can go for a PhD by obtaining fellowships. After completing their PhD, they can get teaching positions in various universities and colleges. They will also get senior scientist positions in various CSIR research laboratories across the country.
There are many jobs in addition to what was mentioned above.
Author: Sheo Shankar Jha Post Date: 15 Jan 2024 Statistics is an important part of uncovering insights into the statistical models which could provide the candidates for the outcome in the data analysis being investigated in the course of performance of the different groups such as the rate of absenteeism in the industry, percentage of the emoluments of the employees getting the highest or the lowest salaries and the other statistical measures. This domain has a wider application in the areas of finance, health care, education, and other industrial services. However, pursuing a graduation or a postgraduate degree in statistics should not be taken lightly by students since it requires their full dedication and involvement while pursuing their studies. The candidates need to understand the concepts of the various statistical methods for the evaluation of the final results.
This domain provides the students with the skills essential for data analysis and they should be able to infer meaningful insights from such observations. They learn both the qualitative and the quantitative techniques while conducting the research projects of the modelling.
The following points would reveal the justifiability of the graduation/post-graduation degree in statistics- 1) The degree holders in this field will become more familiar with the latest tools and methods being used in the field of the data and the conclusion of the final results. 2) It would allow the candidates to take up higher roles in the organizations such as financial or technical services. 3) They become more competent in the areas of problem-solving abilities apart from analytical thinking skills.
