Is it worth preparing for IIT admissions in India or focus on admission to foreign universities?

Many students think that education abroad is much better than in India. It is not a correct thinking. The institute in which the student is joining will make a difference. IITs are excellent world-class institutes and many students eye for a seat in IITs from their early education years.
Not all colleges in India are bad. Not all colleges abroad are good. We all know that many foreign students come and study in India in colleges like IIMs, IITs, NITs and other universities. During the academic year 2018 – 19, the number of foreign students studying in various institutes in India is about 49348 as per a survey on Higher Education (AISHE) on an India basis.
Indian Institutes of Technologies are the best world-class institutes in India. Getting a seat is very tough but once a student gets a seat in any of these institutes, we can expect that he/ she is going to flourish in his/her life. As per the latest QS World University rankings, IIT Bombay ranks 172nd globally and second in India. The Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore is the first in India. IIT, Bombay has been ranked first in India and 47th globally in Engineering and Technology in the same survey. It is a really tough task to get a seat there.
IIT admissions will be based on JEE advanced and the test is tough and really hard work and focussed efforts are required to get a seat in any of these IITs. Coming to foreign universities, there are some institutes which are far more advanced than our IITs and IISc. But getting a seat in such institutes is not an easy task.
Against this backdrop, the individual must assess his/ her capabilities and then take a call. I believe trying for IITs is a good choice. But one should not stop trying other standard institutes abroad. If the result is not positive in both these trials then only the student should think of some normal institutes in advanced countries like the US and the UK. I believe a hardworking and smart guy can manage a seat in India's best institutes like IITs. NITs and BITs etc.
I suggest the individual first assess the self-capabilities. Once we know where we stand we can understand ourselves what is the percentage probability of getting a seat in IIT. If it is very less, then the individual should start searching institutes across the world including India and try to get a seat in the best possible institute.

The basic purpose of education is to make a good career. From that perspective, in my view, preparing for IITs and going to foreign countries for higher education both are good options.
Let us now try to understand the relative merits of these two options.
Undoubtedly, IITs are the top institutions in our country and many students aspire to get admission to them. After completing the course from IIT, generally, good chances are there for placement in a good company. Many multinational companies prefer IIT graduates. At the same time getting admission to IIT is not an easy task and requires thorough preparation and getting good scores in JEE. Due to the large number of candidates in our country and limited IIT seats, it is obvious that the competition is quite tough. Still, meritorious students can always do the requisite preparations and get admission to IIT.
Coming to the taking admission to a foreign university, for that one has to first find out the streams and subjects where job opportunities are better. Once that is understood and that matches well with the interest and liking of the candidate and the candidate has the necessary eligibility qualification to apply for that then one can think of that option. In most of these cases, a person can secure a job in that foreign country itself and most of the students go for this option for that charm.
Doing a course from outside has some financial considerations also and one should have sufficient financial resources for that. Of course, one can also apply for educational loans to meet up those expenses.
I would strongly suggest that students who are good in studies but due to severe competition do not get admission to IIT can always think of doing some good course from some reputed foreign university as that also allows them to make a career in the industry, especially in multinational enterprises.
