After the 12th class with Physics, Chemistry and Biology, a student can join the B.Sc. Microbiology course. BSc Microbiology is a three-year undergraduate program. This branch deals with the detailed study of microorganisms and their effects on the human body. Molecular Ecology, enzyme technology, Molecular biology, Industrial Microbiology, and Immunology are some of the topics covered in this course.

The majority of the universities and institutes are offering seats in this course based on merit. They allot seats based on the marks obtained in their intermediate or the 12th class or an equivalent exam. There is no necessity to write any mandatory entrance test for admissions. However, some private universities or colleges may be conducting their entrance test. A student can go through the details from the website of the college in which he/she wants to get admitted.

There are two ways of pursuing a B.Sc. Microbiology course, that is, either through the entrance test conducted by the leading universities or through the marking system fixed in some universities for pursuing the said course. Hence there is no mandatory system for the candidates to clear the entrance test route in all cases. They can look out for universities for their admissions where they can be inducted into the course based on aggregate marking secured by them as fixed by the universities for admission to the said course. They are required to pass Class 12 from a recognised board in the science stream with Physics, Chemistry and Biology with at least a 55% aggregate or the threshold mark fixed by the university for admission in the normal route.

A few of the reputed universities which conduct entrance exams are Delhi University, Punjab University, Amity University, and Bharathiar University. Here, the candidates might try for the written entrance test followed by a Viva for pursuing the course.

The candidates must aim for a B.Sc. (Honours) in Microbiology since this can provide them with a deeper concept in the said course than the usual B.Sc. Microbiology. The duration of the course for both is three years.
