Its NIRF 2022 ranking has been 29, which is quite high compared to many other colleges, including, private and government-owned. In fact, it is one of the most sought-after engineering institutions in the country, after the old IITs. Students prefer it above many of the new IITs and NITs. BITS Pilani mostly offers full-time courses that are conducted on campus. But in recent times, it has also been offering an online degree program. The program is designed and delivered by the institute itself. The name of the online program is Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) in Computer Science. The program is entirely online, including, even the examinations.
The course is in English language and the course curriculum includes online group participation, discussions, and interaction with classmates and faculty. The online lectures will be live as well as pre-recorded. Besides the online classes, there will be opportunities for hands-on experiences on the latest edge of technologies in computer science topics, like machine learning, data structures, algorithms, web development, app development, human-computer interface and so on. Besides gaining the above technical skills, the students also learn various workplace skills like problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
There are no attendance criteria and as such, the course is useful for those who want to continue with their education at their own pace. However, there are regular online assessments and frequent question-and-answer sessions that ensure the students do not get too complacent with their studies. Even though conducted online, every graduating student from the program will be every bit a BITS Pilani alumni. The program is also open to citizens from other countries.
It is to be noted that the mathematics qualifier exam will be held online and candidates will get three attempts to clear it. The candidates need to pay the exam fee for each attempt though.
Apart from high school graduates, the program can be joined by those who are already enrolled for a degree program. An additional degree from a top institution like BITS Pilani, even though online, will be an added advantage in getting a good career break. Students enrolling for the online B.Sc in Computer Science program have to complete 30 courses and two projects, which they can complete within a time frame of three to six years. The criteria for admission to this online B.Sc program are quite relaxed. One need not have prior background in science or mathematics. Those from the commerce or arts stream too can apply. However, the following are the essential criteria for applying for this online program.- Should have completed class 12 under the 10+2 scheme in any discipline from a recognised board. Those with a technical diploma too may apply.
- Since the entire course is in English, the candidates are expected to be proficient in the language. They should have passed the English subject in class 10 or 12.
- It helps if the students have proficiency in mathematics as well. In that case, they don't have to need to appear for an online mathematics qualifier exam, which is otherwise mandatory for all those not having studied mathematics in class 12 or who scored less than 60% marks in the subject in their 12th board.

Fee structure
The tuition fee for the program varies according to the citizenship of the candidate. For Indian citizens, it is INR 3,13,000 for the entire duration of the program. For candidates belonging to other developing countries, the names of which are given on the program page on the website, the fee is USD 4,000. For the rest of the countries, it is USD 6,000. The fee has to be paid before the start of each semester. Since there are six semesters in all, the fee is split into six equal parts.Some useful features of the online B.Sc program
At regular intervals during every course, students can convert their credits into credentials. After two years of study, based on the credits accumulated, the students have the option to exit with a diploma. Those completing the program and exiting after 3 years earn a bachelor's degree.
