Is there any restriction on age and number of attempts for CTET/STET?
Author: Dr. Sanchita Ranjan Post Date: 05 Jun 2024 CTET is the abbreviation of the Central Teacher Eligibility Test. It is conducted by the CBSE twice a year. It is conducted to determine the eligibility of candidates for appointment as Classes 1 to 8 teachers in Central Government Schools.
Eligibility Criteria:- 1. Candidate should have passed 10+2 with a minimum of 45% aggregate marks to qualify for an appointment as a primary-stage teacher. Candidates need to complete the teacher training programs prescribed to them. 2. The minimum age to appear for a CTET examination is 18 years and an upper age limit is not prescribed. Candidates can attempt many times for this exam. There is no restriction on the number of attempts a person can take to acquire a CTET Certificate. 3. Candidate should have passed or appeared in the final year of a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education Or Graduation with at least 50% marks and passed or appeared in one year B.Ed for elementary stage.

STET is the abbreviation of the Secondary Teacher Eligibility Test. It is conducted for recruiting teachers as per their eligibility at the secondary and higher secondary levels. Candidates should have passed a Bachelor's degree in the relevant subject with at least 50% marks and have passed the B.Ed. exam. Bachelor's degree in related subject with 50% marks and B.Ed.

The examination is conducted twice a year and details can be confirmed from the website - https://ctet.nic.in.
The candidates would be required to submit the online application form addressed to the website indicated above. The following points indicated below would help the aspirants to assess their eligibility criteria for the said examination- 1) The threshold mark set by the CBSE Board of Secondary Education is 60%. 2) There is no penalty for a wrong answer. 3) The general candidates should secure at least 90 marks in the written exam, whereas for the reserved categories such as SC/ST/OBC/PWD, the marks should be at least 82.

The minimum age limit is 18, but an upper age limit is not prescribed. They can appear for CTET exams as many times as they wish.
Teachers who wish to teach classes 1 to 5 in CBSE should pass 12th grade with 50% marks and appear for Paper 1, while teachers who want to teach classes 6 to 10 in CBSE should pass graduation with a minimum of 50% marks.
