National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad is offering a Bachelor Of Design (B.Des.) course. The course duration is four years. The following are the areas of specialisation offered by this institute.
1. Faculty of Industrial Design,
2. Faculty of Communication Design,
3. Faculty of Textile, Apparel, Lifestyle & Accessory Design,
4. Ceramic & Glass Design.

The admission notification has already been released for the coming academic year. The important dates are as mentioned below.

The eligibility criteria:
A. Educational qualifications: Students who completed their 12th class in any stream (Science, commerce, arts, humanities, etc.) conducted by any board of education like CBSE, ICSE, etc., or any recognized equivalent examination are eligible to apply. Candidates appearing for the 12th class during the year 2023-24 in any stream as mentioned above can also apply.
The following are some of the examinations that are considered identical to class 12 are as follows:
1. The final examination of the 10 + 2 system is conducted by the Central or state board recognized by the Association of Indian Universities (aiuweb.org.).
2. Intermediate or 2-year Pre-University examination conducted by a board or university recognized by the Association of Indian Universities.
3. The final year examination of the 2-year course at the Joint Services Wing of the National Defence Academy (N.D.A.).
4. Senior secondary school examinations with at least five subjects conducted by the National Institute of Open Schooling.
5. An examination conducted by any public school, board, or university in India or a foreign country that is recognized as equivalent to the 10 + 2 system by the A.I.U.
H.S.C. vocational examination.
6. The advanced (A) level of the general certificate education (G.C.E.) examination (London, Cambridge, or Sri Lanka)
7. High school certificate examination or International Baccalaureate Diploma at the International Baccalaureate Office, Geneva conducted by Cambridge University
8. The candidates, who have completed their 10+2 or equivalent examination from outside India or from a board or university not specified in the above list, have to submit a certificate from the Association of Indian Universities in this regard.

B. Age: Candidates of Indian Nationality who are born on or after 1 July 2003 are eligible to apply. Indian Nationals in reserved categories born on or after 1 July 2000 are eligible to apply for admission. Indian Nationals in PwD reserved category born on or after 1 July 1998 are eligible. Foreign nationals born on or after 1 July 2003 are eligible.
C. Reservations are applicable as per the government's directions from time to time.
D. Candidates with citizenship in any country other than the Republic of India can apply for this examination under the overseas candidates' category. In the B.Des (Bachelor of Design) overseas candidates hold 15% of the extra seats that the NID allots. (National Institute of Design). The eligibility requirements for Overseas candidates are as follows.
a. The Non-Residents of India (N.R.I.s) candidates only have to apply as citizens of India.
b. The candidates hold a foreign passport with a valid P.I.O. (Person of Indian Origin) or O.C.I. (Overseas Citizen of India) status can apply under any category, i.e., the 'Indian' or 'Overseas' category.
c. The candidates applying under the overseas category have to pay fees equivalent to foreign citizens only if they use under the Indian category students, they have to pay costs equal to Indian citizens.
d.The overseas candidates can only apply online. The official website for admission in this category is admissions.nid.edu.
e.The candidates who opted for the overseas category can only take the Design Aptitude Test (DAT) at the Ahmedabad campus. The DAT is followed by the stage 2 and 3. examinations.
f. The NID Admit cards will be available for download at the official website, and the candidate will be responsible for taking a print of the same.

Application Process:
The application form for admission to NID 2024 is now available on the website. The last date for application submission is 1st December 2023, without a late fee. The last date for application with late fees is 3rd December 2023.
There is an option for editing the application submitted by the candidates from 5th December 2023 to 7th December 2023.
The admission will be based on the entrance test. The step-wise process to apply is mentioned below. 1. The candidate has to first get registered by entering their email ID, mobile number, etc.
2. The candidate has to enter their personal, academic, and contact details.
3. Scanned copies of documents, including photographs, signatures, and academic documents have to be uploaded in the prescribed format.
4. The application fee has to be paid in online mode using a debit card, credit card, or net banking.
The application fee is INR 3,000 for the OPEN category and INR 1,500. For reserved category candidates.
The admission will be based on the rank obtained in the entrance test conducted by the institute. There will be two phases. The first phase will be a preliminary test and the 2nd phase is the main test. Candidates who cleared preliminaries will have to attend the mains. The final list of eligible candidates will be made based on their performance in the preliminary as well as in the mains. The mains test will have a studio test also. Students should attend the tests as per the dates mentioned. No request for a date change will be entertained.
