Osmania University, Hyderabad PhD admission procedure.
Osmania University is the oldest university in the state of Telangana. This university is offering PhD programme in the Faculties of Arts, Commerce, Management, Education, Law, Social Sciences, Oriental Languages, Science, Technology, Pharmacy, Engineering, and Informatics. The duration of the course is a minimum of 3 years.
Eligibility:
The eligibility criteria for admission to this course is a candidate who wanted to apply for this should have completed his Post Graduation or 4 years degree course in the concerned subject with a minimum of 55% marks. SC/ST candidates with 50% marks can also apply for admission.
In addition to the above, the candidate should fulfil at least one of the following two points
1. A candidate should have a junior Research Fellowship either through a National Level Test conducted by national-level organizations such as UGC / CSIR / ICAR / ICMR / DBT / DST-INSPIRE or should have FIP / QIP Teacher Fellowships.
2. If the candidate is not having any JRF, he /she must appear for and qualify for the PhD. Entrance Test. This test will be conducted by the University in the concerned subject in which they wish to pursue a PhD. Program.
This test will be conducted by all the departments in which there are vacant seats for PhD admissions. The duration of the examination is 90 minutes. The maximum marks for this test are 70 marks. The test will be conducted online (Computer based). The questions will be multiple choice questions and the syllabus can be obtained from the department in which the candidate wants to get admitted. Students who obtain a minimum of 50% marks are eligible to join the PhD. It is 45% in the case of SC/ST candidates.
Admission Process:
The Dean of each Department will ask for applications from eligible candidates as per the above-mentioned criteria. They will select the candidates based on merit. If there is a tie, the age factor will be taken into consideration.
The admission will be mainly in two categories. 50% of the total seats available in the department will be filled with candidates who are having a JRF as mentioned in the eligibility requirement. The remaining 50% will be filled from candidates who cleared the entrance test conducted by the university.

Candidates desirous of admissions are required to apply online. The admissions to UG programs are on merit basis, but for some programs like BFA, B.Sc, B.Ed, LLB, BE, and B.Tech, the students have to clear the entrance test taken by the university.
Those students who have completed their graduation degree can apply for various PG programs like - MA, MCJ, MCA, M.Tech, MHM, M.Sc, MFC, MBA, MPhil etc. For applying for some of the PG courses the students should have 50% marks in their qualifying exam but for some other courses it is to be at least 55%. The candidates are shortlisted for admission to PG courses based on their scores in the entrance exams like ICET, GATE, and EAMCET. For some of the PG courses Osmania University takes its own entrance exam which is known as CPGET and that is generally held during the month of June.
Application fees for the general category is Rs 500 and for the reserved category, it is Rs 375.
