M.Sc, Botany is a very useful course for students who want to pursue their career in plant sciences. Teaching jobs are there for Botany PGs. In addition to that the following are the avenues for a career for students
1. A student who completed a PG in Botany can apply for a CSIR/UGC fellowship and do PhD in any research laboratory or University. To get this fellowship a student has to clear the NET examination in Botany subject.

2. There are many CSIR laboratories carrying out research in botany-related fields. There will be scientist B posts in these labs. M.Sc Botany students are eligible to apply for this. There will be some technical officers/Technical assistant posts in these laboratories and PGs in Botany can apply for these posts.

3. There are some private laboratories in this field and they will employ PGs in Botany students.

4, All colleges and universities will have laboratories in Botany departments. In these laboratories, M.Sc Botany candidates will be employed as technical assistants

5. There are many Biotech industries in India. They employ some PGs in Botany for various posts in Production, quality control, and R & D departments.

6. M.Sc Botany candidates can apply for various posts in banks for officer and clerk posts. They can attempt UPSC posts and Group I and Group II posts in the State government.

7. DRDE, a lab of DRDO that is situated in Gwalior. They conduct research in the fields related to plant sciences and Botany post graduates will have some openings.

There is no dearth of the jobs for the candidates having acquired a degree in the M.Sc Botany. Given below are some of the promising areas where they can be gainfully employed-

1) The candidates can get the jobs of the Research Fellows, Project Fellow etc in the Botanical Research Institutes.
2) They can take up the jobs in the following areas if they have the passion for such jobs indicated below-
a) The Department of Conservation and Land Management.
b) Department of Agriculture.
c) Public Health Services.
d) Medical Plant and Resources Laboratories.
e) Forest Services.

In addition to the above, the scope of looking for jobs in other general categories is also always open to such graduates.
