M.Sc Chemistry freshers will have many job opportunities in various fields. Among the science subjects, Chemistry is the subject which has many job opportunities both in government and private sector. I myself have a PhD in Chemistry. I was not interested in a teaching job. So I joined a private company as a laboratory Manager immediately after my PhD and I retired recently as a Director from a Limited company in the Private Sector. I know many other chemistry PGs who worked in the Private industry and had an excellent career.

I suggest going through the following article for further details on this subject: Career after Post graduation in chemistry

The following are some of the opportunities for a fresh M.Sc Chemistry candidate in addition to teaching jobs-
1. Research Scholars/Scientists: After completing M.Sc chemistry students can opt for PhD courses in any university of scientific laboratories. There are research laboratories in the private as well as government sectors. Students can join these laboratories as research scholars and fellowships will be there. NET-qualified candidates will get CSIR/UGC fellowships. Many private companies will be giving research projects to these institutes and the institutes will be taking some PGs to carry out research work. These labs will have scientist posts and the scholars working in these laboratories can apply for those posts. There are R & D centers in the private sector also and they will be appointing some M.Sc students as scientists. I know many companies where many chemistry candidates are working as Research Scientists.

ISRO, DRDO, GSI, NGRI, CCMB, and CSIR laboratories, are some of the research institutes in the public sector where a good number of post-graduates in Chemistry are having chances to work as Scientists. The scientists working in these laboratories can work for their Ph.D. by registering their name in any one of the universities in the state.

2. Manufacturing Jobs: There are various Ordnance Factories in India under the Ministry of Defense. In these factories Production, quality control and R&D activities require many Chemistry post-graduates. There are many public sector undertakings like HPCL, ONGC, IOCL, BPCL etc. There are some openings for Chemistry PGs in these organizations also.

There are many factories in the private sector in the manufacturing field. Bulk Drugs and formulations manufacturing companies, Chemicals and fine chemicals manufacturing companies, metal processing units, explosive manufacturing units, biotech companies, and food processing units in various places in India. All these companies will have openings for PGs in chemistry.

3. General jobs: They can also apply for various positions in banks and other administrative jobs in the government and private sector. People who are interested can try for UPSC and state government administrative positions like Group I, II, etc.
