The first time I heard of a photography course was from my friend who had gotten into NIFT, Chennai. She was pursuing an under-graduation in Fashion Communication and was telling me about her course structure and campus life when she told me about photography. NIFT doesn't actually provide a specific photography course but almost all courses there have at least one subcourse on photography and its basics.

This made me more curious about the other available photography courses in India. Through research, I came to realize that photography courses are provided for basic level, advanced level, undergraduate, graduate, diploma, custom- individualistic needs. The available courses are sectioned based on themes such as fashion, wildlife, product, travel, wedding, photojournalism etc.

Although I'm no expert on Photography, I have a lot of friends working in the industry and in conversing with them, I made a list of institutions that provide quality photography courses for amateurs as well as experienced individuals, all across India:

    National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad

    Delhi College of Photography

Jawaharlal Nehru Architecture and Fine Arts University, Hyderabad

Asian Academy of Film and Television, Noida

The Indian Institute of Digital Art and Animation, Kolkota

For specific details, I would advise you to get in contact with the appropriate authorities at the particular colleges. I wish you all the best in your undertaking to study photography courses.

You can get a certificate, diploma, graduate degree and post-graduate degree in photography. You can pursue a certificate and diploma after 10 or 12 examinations. Certificates and diplomas are 6 months to 1-year courses. Graduation in photography is a 3 years course and the post-graduate course is of 2 years.

You can do these courses online or offline as per your need and conditions. But I will suggest you do these courses offline from a reputed institution. It will certainly increase the value of your resume.

There are many platforms that offer you online photography courses. Udemy is the best platform for online courses.
