The concept of Residential schools is not a new one. We read in many epics where students go and stay with their Guru and serve him and take coaching from him. I know a Veda Pandit. He used to teach Vedas to 10 to 15 people at a time. All these students were staying with him in his house and they learned Vedas from him. In my opinion, these are also residential schools only.

There are many residential schools in India. All Navodaya Vidyalayas Eklavya Model Residential Schools. Sainik Schools and Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas are some of the famous government residential schools.

There are many private residential schools are also there. The Doon School in Dehradun is also a residential school.

There are many benefits for students who study in residential schools and they will have an overall development in their lives.
The following are some of the advantages of studying in these residential
1. These schools provide in-depth academic knowledge to the students. These schools concentrate also on children's all-around development. They strive for improving their communication skills, problem-solving, decision-making abilities etc.
2. The students can interact more with the teachers as they also stay on campus and hence they will have sufficient time to help the students in clearing their doubts.
3. As these students will be away from their parents and stay with friends they understand the practical problems in living and they will understand life in a better way and they learn the independent way of living.
4. Students from different areas will be living together in the hostels. So they will have the advantage of learning different languages and different cultures.
5. The students will have a chance of building a network that will be useful for them in their career development in the future years to come.

The concept of residential school has been very old. In earlier times, children used to go to Gurukul for study as well as another form of teaching. At that time children used to get trained in all walks of life. Residential school always helps children to complete work themselves. Myself being studied in a residential school from Class 6 to Class 12, I can certainly give you my insights and knowledge in this topic. I studied in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya Calicut, Kerala. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs) are a network of residential schools established by the Indian government to provide quality education to students from rural areas. There are currently over 650 JNVs across the country. The schools follow the CBSE curriculum and provide free education, accommodation, and meals to students. Admissions to JNVs are based on a selection test conducted at the district level. JNVs have modern infrastructure and facilities, and aim to provide a well-rounded education to students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

Let us now discuss some private residential schools. In fact, residential schools in India are educational institutions where students live and study on the same campus. These schools provide a unique learning experience where students not only receive academic instruction but also develop important life skills such as independence, responsibility, and self-reliance.

Here are some of the most well-known private residential schools in India:

1. The Doon School, Dehradun, Uttarakhand
2. Mayo College, Ajmer, Rajasthan
3. The Scindia School, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh
4. Welham Girls' School, Dehradun, Uttarakhand
5. Bishop Cotton School, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh
6. Lawrence School, Sanawar, Himachal Pradesh
7. Rishi Valley School, Chittoor, Andhra Pradesh
8. Kodaikanal International School, Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu
9. Good Shepherd International School, Ooty, Tamil Nadu
10. Woodstock School, Mussoorie, Uttarakhand

These schools offer a range of academic programs, including the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE), the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), and the International Baccalaureate (IB). In addition to academics, these schools offer extracurricular activities such as sports, music, and drama.

Residential schools are a popular choice for parents who are looking for a well-rounded education for their children, as they offer a unique learning experience that fosters independence and personal growth. However, it's important to note that these schools can be expensive, and admission is competitive. It's essential to research and consider various factors, such as location, fees, and facilities, when choosing a residential school in India.

Apart from that, The Indian government has established several residential schools in various parts of the country to provide quality education and accommodation to underprivileged students. Here are some of the government-sponsored residential schools in India:

1. Navodaya Vidyalayas - Navodaya Vidyalayas are a network of residential schools established by the Central Government to provide education to talented rural students. The schools follow the CBSE curriculum and provide free education, accommodation, and meals to students.

2. Sainik Schools - Sainik Schools were established by the Ministry of Defence to prepare students for careers in the armed forces. The schools follow the CBSE curriculum and provide military training along with regular academics. Students who graduate from Sainik Schools have the option to join the National Defence Academy.

3. Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas - Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas were established by the government to provide education to girls from socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The schools follow the CBSE curriculum and provide free education, accommodation, and meals to students.

4. Eklavya Model Residential Schools - Eklavya Model Residential Schools were established by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs to provide education to students from tribal communities. The schools follow the CBSE curriculum and provide free education, accommodation, and meals to students.

5. Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas - Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas are residential schools established by the Central Government to provide quality education to students from rural areas. The schools follow the CBSE curriculum and provide free education, accommodation, and meals to students. (I studied in JNV Calicut, Kerala from Class 6 to Class 12)

These government-sponsored residential schools have excellent infrastructure, experienced faculty, and modern facilities. They aim to provide quality education to students from underprivileged backgrounds and help them develop the skills and knowledge necessary to succeed in their careers.
