For a student who is desirous of doing an MBA, both the UK and the USA are two popular destinations in my opinion. There are many world-class institutes in both countries. The salient features of this course in both these countries are listed below.

MBA in the UK:
1. The eligibility criteria for this course in this country is a graduate degree from a recognised institute with a 2.75 to 3.6 GPA or marks equivalent to the grade. The candidate should have a minimum of 2 to 4 years of work experience.

2. The duration of the course is about a year. Some institutes may take 18 to 21 months for course completion.

3. The admission will be made based on GMAT, GRE, TOEFL/ IELTS or PTE scores in addition to the score obtained in the degree. I feel a score of 700 on the GMAT and 160 on the GRE may be required to get a seat in a good institute.

4. The cost of the course is generally less than that of the USA.

5. There are opportunities for part-time jobs while doing the course.

6. Many of the institutes in the UK concentrate on research activities. The candidate will have many options for selecting the core subject for studying an MBA.

7. The cost of living in the UK is less than that of the USA in my opinion.

8. Many business schools in the UK help students to bring out their entrepreneurial skills and encourage them to go for their own businesses.

MBA in the USA:
1. The eligibility criteria for this course in this country is a graduate degree from a recognised institute with a 2.75 to 3.6 GPA or marks equivalent to the grade. The candidate should have a minimum of 3 to 6 years of work experience.

2. The duration of the course is about 2 to 3 years.

3. The admission will be made based on GMAT, GRE, TOEFL or IELTS scores in addition to the score obtained in the degree. I feel a score of 730 on the GMAT and 170 on the GRE may be required to get a seat in a good institute.

4. The cost of the course will be generally higher than that of the UK as the course duration is more.

5. There are chances for part-time jobs while doing the course.

6. The cost of living in the US is higher than that of the UK.

7. Many top B schools in the US maintain very good relations and connections with many corporates across the world, I think. This will help the candidate get a job or a scholarship or an internship.

8. The quality of education is supposed to be better which will give an edge to the candidate in climbing fast the ladder in their career. A more practical-oriented approach of the institutes in this country gives this edge to the student.

The standard of the institute in which the candidate did his MBA will make a lot of difference irrespective of the country. There are top-class institutes in both these countries. But affordability and obtaining a seat are the two important points. I heard that the chances of getting a scholarship are more in the US than in the UK. I always suggest that give more importance to the rank of the institute than the country.
