The United States of America is a much sought-after destination for many people across the world not only for having an education but also for having a better career. I am of the opinion that the USA will be having the highest number of foreign students.

Getting a seat in a good institute in this country itself is an achievement. I know many people who went there for education and settled there. With the interaction I had with my relatives and friends who studies in that part of the world, I suggest, a student who is about to go there for their study, the following.

1. Decide on the subject you want to pursue first and then search for the best possible institute for that subject.

2. Once a seat is confirmed and you received the allotment letter, apply for a student Visa at the earliest possible. There are two types of student Visas.

F-1 student Visa is for students who are joining a degree, diploma, or certificate in a school having authorization from the U.S. government to admit international students.

M-1 student Visa is for students in vocational or other nonacademic programs, other than language training.

3. USA is costly. The cost of living is high. House rents are also high. If the university you are joining is having an onsite accommodation facility, it is better to avail of that as that will be cheaper. Alternatively, a group of students can live together in a rented house outside the campus and food also can be cooked by them.

The costs will depend upon the place you are going to stay. Before going there contact somebody if you know there and get the details. Many Universities will have foreign students association. You can contact them by obtaining the information through the website of the institute. They may advise you accordingly. They will also inform you if there are any vacancies available in the student groups living outside.

4. Start doing all your work on your own from now onwards. You can not hire services in the USA at a lower price. If possible learn driving also and go there with a driving licence from India. Of course, you have to get a driving licence there again.

5. There will be part-time job opportunities in that country for foreign students. You can get the details after going there and try to get a job so that you can meet your expenses from your earnings.

Get ready to work hard. You can't neglect your studies and at the same time, earning is also important.

6. Speak to the seniors in the institute especially those from India and get their suggestions. That will be very helpful to you to have a better life there.
