All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is a national-level Apex Advisory Body. It was established in November 1945. The aim is to organise a survey and assess the facilities and provisions available in the institutes that are providing technical education to the students in our country. It is under the Department of higher education. A statutory status to this council was given by an Act of Parliament in the year 1987.

The main focus of AICTE will be on the planning and development of technical education in the technical institutes of the country. It aims not only at quantity but also at quality. It acts as an advisory board to the government of India on Technical education. The organisation is having statutory powers. It formulates the regulations for all the institutes in the country for higher-level technical education. This body monitors the funding also for important and priority areas in the field of technical education. There are 10 bureaus in this organisation and also 10 boards of studies to see the curriculum and implement changes in the same as per the needs.

The objectives of this organisation are-

1. To develop, implement and monitor the norms and standards in various technical education institutes in the country.

2. To accredit the institution with different grades based on the infrastructure, faculty etc and offers quality assurance to the institutes through these accreditation.

3. To understand the needs and provide funding to the institutes in priority areas.

4. Finding ways and means to develop technical education in the country.

5. To provide certifications and awards to the institutes based on the quality of education that is being provided by the institute.

The roles of AICTE are mentioned below-

1. AICTE permits management to upgrade their institutes. The launch of new courses should be carried out by the institutes only after obtaining permission from this council.

2. The council permits the establishment of new technical institutes in the country. These institutes may offer all or some of the technical courses at different levels such as Degree, Diploma, Post Diploma, PG, PG Diploma, and PG.

3. AICTE approves the change of location of the institute for technical education in the country. The institutes that are accredited by AICTE should not change their sites without getting prior approval from this council. These institutes should inform this council in case they want to close their institution and should obtain their permission before closure.

4. Any institute that wants to convert a Women's institution into a Co-Ed college and vice versa should obtain prior permission from this council.

5. AICTE is the apex body of the country that monitors, regulates and grants permission for increase or decrease of intake of students in the institutes.

AICTE stands for All India Council for Technical Education. It is a national-level Apex Advisory Body. It was established in November 1945. It's aims to encourage India's development in an integrated and coordinated manner. It belongs to the Department of higher education and received a statutory status by an Act of Parliament in the year 1987. It takes good care of the planning and development of technical education in the institutes of the country.

There are many roles of this advisory body which are as follows:-
1. It helps in upgrading the institutes such as the launch of new courses, an extension of the existing institutes, and the continuation of approval after having a break in the preceding academic year.
2. It allows the establishment of new technical institutes in the country that would offer technical courses at different levels such as Degree, Diploma, Post Diploma, PG and PG Diploma.
3. It approves changing the site or location for technical education in the country. Besides, It also permits the closure of the institutes if they apply for it.
4. It can give permission to convert between Women's institutions into Co-Ed colleges and vice versa.
5. It also helps to reduce or increase the intake, courses, and first and regular shifts in the existing technical institutes.

Function of AICTE
1. To undertake surveys in the various fields of technical education, and collect data on all related matters.
2. To coordinate the development of technical education in the country at all levels.
3. To allocate and disburse out of the Fund of the Council such grants on such terms and conditions as it may think fit technical institutions, and universities imparting technical education in coordination with the Commission
4. To promote innovations, research, and development in established and new technologies, generation, adoption, and adaptation of new technologies as well as for the overall development of educational process.
5. To formulate schemes for promoting technical education for women, handicapped and weaker sections of the society
6. To promote an effective link between technical education system and other relevant systems including research and development organisations, industry and the community.
7. To evolve suitable performance appraisal systems for technical institutions and Universities imparting technical education, incorporating norms and mechanisms for enforcing accountability.

All India Council of Technical Education is a national Level of Apex Advisory Body established in November 1945. The primary objective was to conduct a survey on the existing facilities available for technical education in the country but now it is responsible for the planning, monitoring and development of technical education in India.

The following are the roles of AICTE -
1) The prime role of this body is to monitor and check the current courses and programs apart from allocation of funds to the priority areas in the field of technical education.
2) It approves upgradation of technical institutes such as launching of new courses, continuation of approval in case of breakout due to some reasons etc.
3) It can permit the establishment of new technical institutions in the country offering technical courses at different levels such as Degree, Diploma, PG Diploma etc.
4) It can permit for the closure of the institutions if they apply for the same from their end.
5) It can grant approval for changing the sites or locations if the institutions apply for such proposals.
6) AICTE takes an active role in reducing or increasing intake of candidates, changing the course pattern or even changing the timing of shifts if the body feels the necessity for such modifications.
7) It evaluates the different technical programs based on prescribed guidelines, norms and standards.
