Every year, as lot of MBA aspirants apply for the CAT admission to a total of about 5,000 MBA seats across the 20 campuses of the IIMs.
IIM Selection Criteria includes qualifying for the CAT exam, getting shortlisted for the PI/WAT, and meeting the final cutoff requirements. To get MBA admission into the Indian Institutes of Management (IIM), the first thing one needs to appear for the CAT exam. Candidates who qualify for the exam and meet the minimum cutoff requirements set by individual IIMs are selected for Written Ability Test (WAT) and Personal Interview (PI).
Eligibility criteria: Candidate should have graduation with minimum 50 per cent aggregate marks or equivalent CGPA (45 per cent for SC, ST and PWD/DA category).Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelor's degree/equivalent qualification exam or awaiting their results, may eligible to apply.
How to get selection: Shortlisted candidates will have to go through the IIM admission process which is divided into three stages.
Stage 1: Shortlisting of candidates based on their CAT exam score
The first stage is to appear for the CAT exam conducted by the IIMs. Based on the CAT score, the candidates will be shortlisted for group discussion. Candidates who meet the shortlist cut-off can log in through their CAT IDs to submit their name and CAT score.
Stage 2: Screening of candidates for WAT/GD-PI
In the second stage, the candidates will be shortlisted on the basis based on ore academic records for WAT/GD/PI. Shortlisted candidate in candidates will be called for counseling held online.
Stage 3: Calculation of Composite Score and Final Selection
In the third stage, the composite score of each candidate is calculated on based on parameters to finalize his/her selection. Final selection will be done by judging various parameters of the candidate.

The admissions procedure for IIMs is rigorous and very competitive, consisting of numerous stages. Depending on the particular programme and institute, different applicants may meet different requirements for admission to Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs).
Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in any discipline from an accredited university or other educational institution. The minimal percentage needed for candidates in the general category is often between 50 and 55 percent, although it could be a little bit lower for candidates in the reserved category.
Work Experience: While some IIMs demand candidates to have 1-2 years of work experience or more, others do not. However, throughout the selection process, having relevant work experience may be an advantage.

This is a very highly competitive examination. Every year more than 2 lakh candidates will be attending this test. The seats available in all IITs put together are about 5000 seats in the IIMs. The candidates should concentrate and focus on preparing well for the test so that they will get the score required for admission.
