Author: Vandana Post Date: 23 Apr 2023 In India, the Bachelor of Nutrition and Dietetics is an undergraduate course of three years duration. It is not a medical program as such but falls in the field of allied health sciences. In my view, this is an excellent course to pursue as the B.Sc. Nutrition and Dietetics course focuses not just on managing nutrition to provide good health. Aspects covered also include food habits, planning a diet, nutritional requirements and assessment, understanding the biochemical aspects of nutrition and health, etc. A few interesting and diverse things you will learn are herbal science, first aid, catering management, Indian traditional foods, etc. As a potential nutritionist/dietician, you will also learn about responsibilities and ethics in the profession.
Course curriculum: At the start of the course, you will learn the basics of food and nutrition, fundamentals of biochemistry, human anatomy and physiology, food hygiene and sanitation, etc. In the second semester, in addition to more advanced learning about aspects covered in the first semester, environmental studies is covered in order to understand how facets of the environment (pollution for example) can affect one's health. Research innovation, food science, community health nutrition, sports nutrition, etc are introduced in the third semester. Therapeutic and Clinical Nutrition, food analysis, catering management, etc are introduced in the fourth semester. There will be a Capstone project in the fifth semester, when you will also learn about food marketing, hospital management, etc. Clinical Internship/Industrial Training is mandatory in the final semester.
Course fee: For Indian students, the semester fee will be approx. INR80,000/-, while for international students it will be approx. $1400.
Eligibility requirements-
For Indian students: Passed the senior secondary exam (10+2) with Biology or Life Sciences as one of the subjects with minimum 50% marks. Some institutes require you to have 50% marks in aggregate in five subjects at the Class 12 level, with English mandatory along with other subjects.
For international students: Obtained a minimum of 50% in the qualifying exam, and studied the pre-requisite subjects for admission to the program.
There will likely be an entrance exam of the specific college/university, but NEET is not required for this course.
Career scope: On successfully completing the three-year B.Sc. Nutrition and Dietetics course, you can seek career opportunities as a nutritionist or dietician in the hospitality and hotel industry, or set up your own independent practice. Other possible careers are as a Food Technologist or as a Community Health Officer, working with national and international organizations as health aid personnel or working on research projects, etc. It is a good idea to acquire higher education qualifications with an M.Sc. Nutrition and Dietetics course for better prospects, including a higher salary.

The main focus of this course is the study of food, balanced diet, food management, nutrition, and its relationship with health and disease. The demand for this course is increasing day by day.
Eligibility Criteria- The candidate should have cleared 10+2 or its equivalent in the science stream (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English are mandatory subjects) with a minimum of 50% marks.
Application procedure B.Sc in Dietetics and Nutrition admission can be applied both through online or offline registration. Admission to the course can happen based on the final marks obtained in the 10+2 or the entrance examination. Additionally, students will have to provide the required documents when filling out the application forms.
Fee structures The average annual fee for completing this course ranges from INR 50,000- INR 2.5 Lakhs per annum. The yearly Annual fees range from as low as INR 10,000 to as high as INR 1,00,000.
Selection process Selection will be done based on the marks obtained by the students. Candidate can find their results through an online website. It is generally done through merit.
