IIST or the Indian Institute of Space Science & Technology is a pioneering institute in the field of space science and technology in India. The institute is located in Thiruvananthapuram in God's own country. The campus is close to the foothills of the Sahyadri ranges and the popular hill resort of Ponmudi. IIST is a Deemed to be University and an autonomous institution directly under the Department of Space, Government of India. Established in 2007, the institute has over the years played a significant role in empowering the country with quality education in the realm of space. Every year hundreds of students pass out from this institution and add to the strength of the country, many among them working for Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), a premier organization that is acting as a frontier for space-based applications in India.

Now if you are an applicant seeking admission to a B.Tech program at IIST, then first of all let us learn about the courses offered here.

  3. B.Tech. + Master of Science/Master of Technology (dual degree)

The B.Tech programs are of 4 years in duration, whereas, the dual degree one is of 5 years. In case you join the dual-degree program, then you get both a B.Tech as well as a Master of Science/M.Tech degree.

The Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology is a deemed University and has this status under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956. It is an autonomous institute under the Department of Space, Govt. of India. A very standard institute and in my opinion this institute is on par with IITs in India.

This institute is offering the following two B Tech courses.

1. B.Tech (Electronics & Communication Engineering (Avionics))
2. B.Tech (Aerospace Engineering)

In addition to the two above the institute is offering a dual degree course. The course duration is 5 years. The students who complete this 5 years course will be awarded a B.Tech degree in Engineering Physics and a Master of Science/ M.Tech degree in one of the following four postgraduate streams:
Master of Science in Astronomy and Astrophysics
Master of Science in Solid State Physics
M.Tech. in Earth System Science
M.Tech. in Optical Engineering

People who join this course can't leave after 4 years with a B Tech degree. They should continue for PG also. But if the Director of the institute feels that some of the students are not performing well he may not promote them to the PG level but may be asked to leave with a B Tech in Engineering Physics.

Candidates who want to get admitted to Undergraduate and Dual Degree Programmes offered by IIST are required to apply separately to IIST through the online application portal on IIST portal
The following are the steps involved.
1. Registration
2. Paying the Registration fee online.
3. The rank list will be published by IIST.
4. The listed candidates should fill in their preferences
5. Then seat allotment will be done by the institute.
6. Candidates allotted seats have to join by paying the fee on the specified date.
