Model Engineering College, Kochi, though a self-financing college, is not a privately owned institution. It is the first self-financing college under the Government of Kerala under the Institute of Human Resources Department. Hence there is no management quota admission as in other private self-financing colleges run by private individuals, private organizations, and even religious organizations.

MEC, Kochi is now affiliated with the APJ Abdul Kalam Technological University.

The admission to MEC, Kochi is based on the scores /ranks in the Kerala Engineering, Agriculture and Medical (KEAM) common entrance test. There are various earmarking as per govt guidelines. The fee structure is also as per govt guidelines and revised from time to time.

The basic fee for B.Tech is Rs 35000/- year. For NRI it is about Rs 1.5 lakhs/per year. There can be additional payments on other heads amounting to 10 to 20 thousand overall also.

About admission, the college web site(mec.ac.in/admissions) says :
"Allotment to 95% seats of the annual intake is made by the Commissioner for Entrance Examination (CEE), Government of Kerala from the rank list of Kerala Engineering Entrance Examination conducted every year by Government of Kerala.
5% seats are reserved for non resident Indians (NRI seats). For NRI admission, separate applications are invited by IHRD and rank list is prepared on the basis of qualifying examination and students are admitted from this rank list." unquote

There can be some spot admission towards later stages if vacancies exist after the various stages of the admission process. (In 2022 it was after the 3rd common allotment)

It also admits students with full/part waiver of fees under the Tuition Fee Waiver scheme for women, economically backward, and physically handicapped meritorious students.
You may get more details of fees from the Government Order dated 15-07-2022 the link address is given here.
