Microbiology is one of the reputed branches growing rapidly in the current time. This is noticeable with the present trend being observed of the inclination of the students opting for this program. Moreover, there is also a lot of demand for qualified microbiologists from different sectors.

Microbiologists are deeply involved in studying infectious agents, organisms and other particles which can be seen clearly with an electron microscope due to its high magnification.

There are certain tips which will help the students in choosing the career of a microbiologist as indicated below -
1) The aspiring student should take up Biology in their intermediate stage, that is, during the period between class eleven and twelve to have a sound concept of the subjects, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology and Botany to understand the principles of the different mechanisms of nature of reactions.
2) After completion of the intermediate level, the students can apply for a B.Sc (Honours) in one of the subjects of Botany, Zoology, and Microbiology in a reputed college with a minimum mark to make themselves eligible for admission.
3) After completion of the B.Sc level, they can take up the course of Microbiology in their postgraduate course.
4) A doctorate in Microbiology would further expand their career growth if awarded by a renowned university.

You should study Intermediate or 11th class or any other equivalent course with Physics, Chemistry and Biology after passing the 10th class to become a Microbiologist. Thereafter he can choose microbiology specialisation in your undergraduate course. To get a good job as a microbiologist one should complete his graduation. To become a scientist in this field one should complete his PG in this subject.

Microbiology is a subject that deals with the study of living microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, protozoa, algae, etc. This subject will have various topics such as cell structure, metabolism, genetics, growth and control, environmental microbiology, etc. Microbiology courses are beneficial in many fields. Medicine, Clinical Research, Agriculture, Nanotechnology, Chemical Technology, Dairy Science, etc. are some areas where this subject is very useful. Like any other subject, this subject also has courses at various levels such as UG, PG, and PhD.

To get admission to the UG course the minimum requirement is to pass Class 12 in the Science stream with PCB (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) subjects with at least a 50% aggregate from a recognized board. The minimum marks requirement may vary for some institutes but 12th class qualification is required. So a student who completed 10th and wanted to become a Microbiologist should join an Intermediate or 11th class or any other equivalent course with Physics, chemistry and biology.

There is career scope in industries such as Research Centers, Agriculture, Food, Pharmaceutical, etc. Some popular job profiles in the Microbiology field are- Virologist, Mycologist, Microbiologist, Food Technologist, Parasitologist, etc. After completing PG, while working as a scientist, the individual can do a Doctor of Philosophy in Microbiology (PhD).
