South India is a hub of Engineering colleges. There are many Engineering colleges in the private sector as well as the government sector. There are IITs, NITs, IIITs etc. in almost every state of south India.
Again, the best will vary from branch to branch. For example, IIT, Hyderabad is supposed to be the best for IT. For chemical engineering, AU College of Engineering is the best. Anyhow in my opinion the following are the best 5 engineering colleges in South India.
1. IIT, Madras: It is one of the first-generation IITs and the only IIT belonging to the first generation in South India. MHRD ranked this institute as number one among the top research and teaching institutions in Engineering in India and it is in the top 50 in Asia. The institute has some advanced research centres in various engineering departments.

2, IIT, Hyderabad: Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad (IITH) is a premier institute of science and technology. It is one of the second-generation IITs established in 2008. IITH has been consistently ranked in the top 10 institutes in India for Engineering. This institute is very active in the field of research which is evident from the patents and the papers published by the faculty and research scholars in the institute. There are innovation centres and incubators that are actively working to promote entrepreneurship and help mentor young innovators. 4. BITS, Pilani, Hyderabad Campus: I have visited and interacted with some of the departments of this institute. Their incubation centre is very well maintained and their laboratories also have very good measuring equipment useful for advanced research. They have ties with many industries in Hyderabad. 5. NIT, Suratkal: NIT, Suratkal was established initially as Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC) in 1960 and upgraded to the National Institute of Technology Karnataka (NITK) in 2002. The NRIF ranking is 38 and in the engineering division, it is 12 in the year 2023.
