Which are the top NITs in India?

The NITs (National Institute of Technology) in India have been established and funded by the Indian Government with the aim to promote advanced learning in engineering and technology and excellence at par with the IITs. They are primarily autonomous institutions, and every NIT has its own core curriculum. NITs are also listed under the top engineering and technical institutions offering quality education and umpteen carrier opportunities for engineering aspirants. Currently, there have been 31 NITs in almost every state and some Union Territories.
The courses offered by the NITs are Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Technology, Bachelor of Architecture, Dual Degree combining BS and MS, B.Tech and M.Tech as UG programs and Master of Science, Master of Technology, Master of Business Administration, and Master of Computer Applications as PG courses. Students can also pursue Ph.D. programs taking up a project of any industry or of their academic interest.
The eligibility for admission into the NIT is to clear the JEE Main and seat allotment is based on the rank secured in the entrance exam, and they need to attend the counselling session conducted by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority. As per the current admission procedure of the NITs, 50% of the seats have been allotted for the State students in which the NIT has been located and the remaining 50% are reserved for the rank holders from other states.
