Andhra Pradesh is having many good Universities. I did my post-graduation and PhD from the then-best University, that is Andhra University, Visakhapatnam. This university was having a very good reputation and the Chemistry department was a very popular Department. Prof. Seshadri, Pro. L R Rao and Prof M N Sastry are internationally famous professors and they were the builders of the chemistry department of Andhra University. I did my PhD with a CSIR scholarship under the guidance of a very well-known Professor by name. Prof. Nemani Krishna Murty. He is a Scientist, Painter and Sculptor. Under his guidance, we learned more about the importance of values in our lives.
Many faculty from this university was shifted to other universities that were started in the state like Nagarjuna University, Guntur, SV University, Tirupati, SK University, Anantapur etc. Even today also I have many contacts in many government and Private Universities where my classmates or juniors are in the faculty.
If we go through the records of various universities both government and private universities, we will find many good universities that are good for doing our PhD.
In my opinion, the following are some of the best universities in the state of Andhra Pradesh.
1. Andhra University: This is one of the oldest universities in the state located on the seashore in Visakhapatnam of Andhra Pradesh. Many Departments are having well-furnished laboratories and the best library facilities (Both Digital and physical). Many faculty in this university are having contacts with many other universities 6internationally. Even today, I rank this university as the best in the state for PhD in certain subjects. A very good hostel facility separately for research scholars is available and an on-campus health centre can be availed by research scholars also. The success will depend more on the guide you are selecting, this is my thinking and experience also.
The NIRF ranking for the year 2022 for this university in the overall ranking is 71. As a university, the ranking it obtained is 36.
2. Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur: Initially this was a PG centre affiliated with Andhra University. Faculty from Andhra University went there and started the PG centre and later on, it has become a full-fledged university. The science departments in this university are well equipped and good for PhD students.
3. Sri Venkateswara University: This is also a first-generation University in the state of Andhra Pradesh and has very eminent faculty carrying out good research, especially in science departments. The NIRF rank of this university for the year 2022 is 67 as a university.
4. GITAM, Visakhapatnam: This is one of the first-generation universities in the state of Andhra Pradesh and this university is promoted by some eminent retired Professors from Andhra University. Many faculty in this university are from Andhra University only. The university is having a track record of conducting quality research The NIRF ranking for the year 2022 of this university is 92. This university is working on many projects that are offered by some of the industries located in nearby places.
5. K L University: This is also one of the private universities located in Vijayawada. Started as a college and grew to the stage of Deemed University. This college is encouraging PhD students and has excellent facilities for carrying out quality research. The NIRF ranking of this university is 27.
In addition to the above, there are many other universities where students can do PhD in science, arts and technology fields. I suggest the students select the best guide available and maintain good relations with him so that he will assist them in completing their work and at the same time help them in getting a good job after their PhD.
